Senior School Learning

Year 3 and 4

The grade 3/4 students have been working extremely hard during maths with a focus on  place value. As an activity students were given the opportunity to go on a place value scavenger hunt around the school. They had to follow a set of instructions and look carefully for numbers that were strategically placed by teachers around the school. Students loved this activity and it was great to see them so engaged in their learning.

Year 5 and 6

This week with 5/6...

Reading: Students have been exploring different types of narrative texts. We have investigated a range of narrative text features that engage the reader! Some texts we have looked at include poetry, picture story books, comics, fractured fairy tales and digital narratives.

Writing: We had an interesting week in writing, playing paper fights! Yes, this did actually help our learning! Students practiced their skills of writing engaging and grammatically correct dialogue - using talking marks, punctuation and challenging vocabulary. Students then passed their page to a partner for them to continue the dialogue. We are also very 'sick of said'! This week - the challenge is to think about synonyms for said!

Maths: Addition strategies has been the focus this week! We have explored the strategies of partitioning (split), number lines (jump) and vertical addition. Students took to the netball courts to create life sized number lines to practice our number lines (jump) strategy.
