Mr Irwin's Message

Mr Irwin's Message

This year Teesdale Primary School is bringing back the concept of competitive house teams. The house teams are Sutherland (yellow), Barker (red) and Tolson (green). The names of the houses may seem familiar to you as they are the street names that surround the school.

Each student has been allocated a house group and will stay in that group throughout their schooling at Teesdale. Siblings have been allocated into the same house group.

Houses will compete for points against each other during special termly events. Our first event this year will be our Teesdale Athletics Carnival on Friday the 19th of March at Don Wallace Reserve. Students will walk to the oval from school and participate in a range of athletic activities for the day. Students will then return to school to be picked up as per usual time. During this event students will be allowed to come to school in their house colours. For example, if you are a student from Sutherland, you may wear a yellow shirt or a dash of yellow.

Teachers are also working towards introducing this concept into the classroom and not just during special sporting termly events. We are working towards rewarding students house points for when they demonstrate Teesdale School Values of Respect, Resilience, Honesty, Friendship and Excellence.

Students will be informed of their house group during school time as some activities will be completed in the classroom to help establish personal house groups.

For parents interested in helping or attending to Athletics day, there is are still some Covid restrictions School Sports Victoria expect us to abide by.

We need parents and volunteers with a Working With Children Check wanting to help marshall events on the day. You can contact the office to let us know of your desire to do this. On the day you’ll need to sign in and wear a fluoro vest.

Parents are able to attend this event as a spectator. There is a restriction however that any spectators attending a school sports carnival remain outside the field of play. To support you enjoying the event and still having a good view of what students are doing we will setup events where possible near the edge of the oval.

Ask Mr Irwin

This week's ask Mr Irwin was, 'wondering whether the school could fly the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander flags in the school as a symbol of inclusion?'

I’m very happy to report that we recognise the importance of doing this and have flagpoles sitting ready to be installed so we can do this. Hopefully in the not too distant future the poles will be installed and all three flags will be flown at the front of the school.

Beloka Leadership Camp

From Wednesday this week I am with our Year 6 leaders on our leadership camp at Beloka Kelpies in Welshpool. This is a select camp for our School Leaders who get the chance to participate in a working dog school. It gives the students who attend great insight into life as a leader and also the opportunity for me to work with the leaders and develop some plans for what they’d like to achieve in their school.

Bye for now!
