Gold stars

Gold Award Accreditation

The Mathematics Association of Western Australia (MAWA) presented St Norbert College with a Gold Maths Active school accreditation for 2021/2022. To obtain this award, the school has to extend their students and teachers beyond basic classroom mathematics teaching.

St Norbert College had to tick many boxes which we are proud to say was a culmination of the fantastic teamwork of all of our Mathematics teachers over the past couple of years.

To achieve Gold status, the Mathematics department staff fulfilled criteria such as:

  • Student participation in talent activity such as Have Sum Fun Face to Face and Have Sum Fun online.
  • Students participation in national mathematics talent activity such as Australian Mathematics competitions and Computational and Algorithmic Thinking.
  • Staff participation in a professional learning mathematics strategy.
  • Staff presenting at the MAWA conference a session of professional learning.
  • Staff involved with the organisation of MAWA event.
  • The weekly afterschool running of a Mathematics Olympiad in which our Year 7 and 8 students actively participate in problem-solving against students in other schools.
  • World of Maths incursion for our Year 7s – Immersion into the art of problem-solving.
  • Mathematics Bootcamp during Term 4 for Year 6 students.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank Ms Tersigni, Ms Wang, Miss Dao, Mr Nuske, Mrs Cardenia, Ms Lim and Mr Ó Grádaigh for their hard work and commitment throughout the year.
