From the Team 3/4 Classrooms

Maths

In Maths so far this term, year 3 and 4 students have been involved in lessons focusing on a variety of topics including the following:

Each classroom has begun developing a Maths Word Wall which includes Maths vocabulary and diagrams, and these will be added to throughout the year as each topic is covered.

After beginning with a short exploration of 2D Geometric Shapes, in Number and Algebra students have investigated Place Value, Rounding, Number Sequences, and Odd and Even Numbers in a variety of tasks and games.

They have partitioned, rearranged and regrouped numbers, recording them as concrete models and in written form.

They used rounding to check estimations when problem-solving.

They've also created odd and even apex puzzles to explore the properties of odd and even numbers.

In Measurement, the focus has been measuring Length, and this has provided the opportunity to estimate, measure, compare and order lengths of a variety of objects.

Students worked collaboratively in groups and had fun measuring the width of their classroom using Unifix blocks. Calculating the actual measurement offered an opportunity to further practise Place Value skills when bundling the blocks and building 10s and 100s, but unfortunately not 1000s!

Further enjoying action-packed investigation, students measured themselves in different ways, and later, calculated the length of different items in the classroom.

These tasks involved estimating, comparing and ordering lengths in metres, centimetres and millimetres.

Looking forward to sharing more Maths with you in future issues!
