Care Learn and Share - Year 6 leaders

Our Care Learn and Share program is a highlight each fortnight, with the opportunity to spend time with our students in a different situation. Watching the relationships develop and grow across the year is a wonder.

Our Year 6 leaders have this week started to produce a film with their Care Learn and Share group. These will be put together by our Media pillar of leaders and a couple will be shown at each assembly this year.

It will be exciting for us to learn all about our Care Learn and Share groups as the year unfolds.

Senior School Production

It has been exciting to see students auditioning for our Senior school production for 2021 - Rock Bottom!

Our students walk into auditions, some confident, some hesitant but they are taking the directions of our extraordinary director Llaaneath Poor and improving as they move through the audition. There are always more parts than those who audition, this is a great opportunity for us to support our students to build resilience. They will have a sense of how those who auditioned in the same session as them went - but there have been eight sessions of cast and two sessions of dance auditions. All cast auditions involve Llaaneath, a teacher and a member of the Leadership team. Dance auditions involve three staff led by Roslyn Pritsis. We also have crew applications to go through as well.

We have had 62 crew applications, 42 dance ensemble applications and 86 cast applications. A huge number of our Year 5/6 students are excited to put their hands up and have a go at getting involved in the production.

When the cast, dance and crew are announced we will all work together to congratulate students who auditioned, those who were successful and those who will form our chorus. Everyone is involved in some way in the production.

This is one moment in time for these children and together we will support them to accept the outcomes.

Foundation and Year 1 Morning Tea

Thanks to our Class Rep coordinators Anna and Linda for arranging a Morning Tea for our Foundation and Year 1 parents. Come along on Monday March 22nd at 9am. A great opportunity to have a cuppa and get to know each other.

Parent and school partnership

Working together

The best interests of the child are always central in school and family decision making. Working together creates a learning environment that is respectful, safe and inclusive, and builds trust and confidence for the student. This is the best environment for successful development and wellbeing.

Occasionally, families and schools may have differing opinions. If views are expressed respectfully, and each party has reasonable expectations, a positive outcome can be reached. For more information on how to provide feedback, including compliments, suggestions and complaints, visit: www.education.vic.gov.au/parents/goingto-school/Pages/school-complaints.aspx

Meeting with your school

As partners in education it is helpful for families to understand their child’s strengths and learning plans. Sharing and discussing insights helps both schools and families to have a broad view of the child’s progress and provide the best support for their education and wellbeing. Conversations and meetings can be scheduled as required.

The following steps may assist discussion:

• confirm the purpose and objective of the conversation/meeting

• define any current situation for your child

• confirm the aims your child has with their education (what are their goals, what are yours?)

• identify and discuss your child’s learning strengths and any challenges or barriers your child is facing

• discuss, suggest and seek what your child might need i.e. learning support or adjustments • take the opportunity to offer constructive and respectful feedback on any suggested improvements to support families and the school for the future

• summarise the agreed actions/plans to ensure everyone has the same understanding and expectations.

Expos

We are working on the plan for Expos, they will be held a little differently this term to ensure we are meeting COVID safe requirements.

Stay tuned!

Good habits start young - digital intelligence

Parents and carers play a vital role in helping children develop their digital intelligence. This link will take you to information from the eSafety commissioner website. A great article on how to build digital intelligence and ideas to assist if you think your child is being bullied online.

Good habits start young

Did you know?

This week I am sharing a page from the Parents section of the Department of Education and Training website about making and keeping friends. Making friends is an important part of the social opportunity offered at school. Supporting your children to make and keep friends will compliment the work we undertake with students at school to develop their social skills.

Some advice from Michael Grose

This week we are sharing two fliers from Michael. The first supports parents with information around parenting anxious kids. It provides six tips to help manage anxiety.

The second flier is about developing leadership skills in your child. It provides tips to support the development of skills in your child.
