Senior School Update

Senior School has been it's usual busy self the last few weeks. We have had some parent information evenings, assemblies, Parent Teacher Interviews and our VCAL/VCE/VET Information evening in preparation for our extensive Course Counselling program.

In Term 2 students will continue with Careers curriculum and exploration, as well as learn more about subject selection for entering Years 10 and 11. Year 11 students have a Course Confirmation in Term 3 where we check that their Year 11 program will continue as is into Year 12. In Term 3, all Year 12s have full Careers meeting with parents to explore choices for 2022 and beyond. Course Selection and eventually the timetable creation is a 9 month long process with different events and activities, that is complex, which we hope to make a smooth process. If parents or students in Year 9, 10, 11, or 12 have any queries along the way, please start with your Home Group Teacher and we will support with the required help.

Term 3 also sees the start of our transition activities, where Year 9s in particular learn more about moving into Senior School. We can see currently the effect of our new Year 10s missing so many transition opportunities last year whilst at home, as many are finding it hard this semester creating new study habits, increased academic expectations, and sustained learning periods. Teachers are working closely with students in this situation, but if you feel your child needs some extra support please get in contact with the Home Group Teacher.

Last week  Senior School was fortunate to have one of our new tutors, Jarrod start with us. The State Government has funded tutors in schools for 2021 to support students who may have gaps in their learning from 2020. Jarrod will help Maths Methods students in Year 10,11, or 12 on Mondays after school until 4:30pm, and General / Further Maths students Tuesdays after school. Jarrod can also help with science subjects. Students can just arrive those afternoons and join in. Jarrod will be in the E3 / Year 12 Study Area. We are adding an English tutor soon, and will also provide students with information about our wonderful EMC Alumni students who will offer private or group tutoring (for a fee) in a range of subjects.

We look forward to a great finish to the term and wish everyone a well deserved Easter break.

Regards,
