PVCC Class of 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2013 Reunion

Did you or anyone you know finish Year 12 at PVCC in 2010, 2011, 2012 or 2013? Or would you have finished Year 12 had you stayed at PVCC?  Join with us to celebrate YOUR 10 (ish) year reunion!

Partners, teachers and former teachers of these year levels are welcome too.

Covid delayed our celebration but this opportunity to get together is well worth the wait! Catch up with long lost friends, swap some fun memories and tour the new and updated facilities at the school. Catering includes a beautiful grazing table and artisan tea and coffee cart.

Staggered start times allow for a more intimate time to catch up with just your classmates but allow some opportunity for mingling with other year levels too.

This event is not to be missed! Book your tickets here:

Crafternoon

Thriving Minds Events

There have been two Thriving Minds events recently.

On June 1st a group of 11 senior students listened to a range of seminars and a debate.

Students were asked to consider the foundations of knowledge and to question if what we know is really true, they were presented with the concepts of Epistemology and Ontology and asked “can the gap be filled?”

As humans it is important to question the questions in life, for what we know is truth is based on our sense of self and our in-built concepts.” NT

The 'Thriving Minds' seminar was an experience like no other, and I would do it again if I had the opportunity. It was refreshing to consider thinking outside of the box and focus on concepts that can easily be disregarded (such as how we know what we know).” SC

Overall I thought this was a phenomenal excursion that did in fact make me question the world we live in and the idea of what is knowledge. How we breach the gap between epistemology and ontology!” NT

Attendees were given the opportunity to consider and discuss as a school group an Oxbridge Interview question – an open ended question that can be approached from a variety of perspectives, one with no fixed answer but a great deal of room to explore.

There was a powerful presentation about happiness and mindset.

Science of happiness is finding what works for you and having a growth mindset instead of fixed mindset.” NT

I found really interesting and thought provoking. Today I learnt about the dynamics of a friendships and how God intentionally constructed them to function in the best way”. LB

Then the students grappled with the concept of Social Physics and big data – the analysis of large data sets and looking for patterns in communities and people’s behaviour.

It is important to have moments of silence to find our individualism and what we believe.” NT

The Seniors finished with a Debate which challenged us to consider our thoughts on love and relationships.

the information I got out of it was incredible. It was engaging and if we just completely disregard the learning fact, the experience, in itself, was one that broadened my knowledge of other learning techniques”. CP

“I also liked the encouragement given by the speakers to develop our thinking and individuality.” ID

On 25th July eleven year 7 & 8 students attended.

The Junior Thriving Minds event was an exciting, challenging, and fun opportunity. ….Some advice I would give to future students joining the event, is to listen to everyone’s opinion, no matter how silly you think it might be, you might just learn something new.” HJ

Students heard and discussed ethics, morals and respect in a survival context. “One thing I got out of Thriving Minds was that there is no limit to how much you can think something through and question and debate society.” MS

The fairest teacher proposed an interesting scenario students discussed in groups of their peers from other schools. “I learned about the differences and similarities between equality, equity and fairness” - KK

Nanotechnology in all different areas of life was the third topic presented, with details the impacts of this technology on the world, ecosystems and our bodies, “we learned it's uses, flaws and implications” SK

Finally the debate was “This house believes it is always right to tell the truth”. There were many different ideas about this contention.

“What I liked the most about my time at the event: Watching the debate and listening to different people’s opinions.” KK

“Something that I left the venue with is the understanding of different perspectives of the topic "It is best to always tell the truth." Looking at these new ways to think about the topic was very fascinating and interesting.” PS

Students were encouraged to be courageous and to have a voice in the public sphere – to use their power to make an impact for this world, just as we encourage our students to make an impact for God in His strength.
