Prep/Year 1
Over the past four weeks, our students in Preparation and Year 1 have been eagerly preparing for the upcoming Athletics Carnival, taking place next Monday 7th August. During these fun-filled PE sessions, we have been practicing various games that will be featured in the event, ensuring our little athletes are all set to show their skills!
In addition to athletics, we have creatively practising Spanish language learning into our PE activities. Through different warm-up games such as "Simon dice" (Simon says), students have been reinforcing their Spanish vocabulary acquired since the beginning of the school year.
One of our primary focuses in the past weeks has been on overarm throwing. Our students have enjoyed both individual and group activities, where they have had the opportunity to throw tennis balls, foxtails, and beanbags, aiming at different targets. Beyond skill development, our emphasis has been on fostering teamwork and inclusivity. Our youngest students have been encouraged to cooperate and ensure that everyone feels included, fostering a positive and supportive learning environment.
I am incredibly proud of the progress our young athletes have made, and we can't wait to see their enthusiasm and sportsmanship shine at the Athletics Carnival.
Year 2/3
In the past four weeks, our Year 2 and 3 students have been enjoying the teaching of a skilled Athletic coach, who has been amazing in preparing them for the highly anticipated Athletics Carnival.
During these PE classes, our focus has been on reinforcing cooperation and refining physical skills that contribute to balance and speed. Students have been learning how to perform a fantastic long jump, followed by a speedy run.
When practising throwing, our students have engaged in various activities. They were introduced to shot put by overarm throwing bean bags for distance, and they've initiated discus throw using frisbees.
In addition to skill development, we have emphasised the importance of rules and fair play. Students were reminded of how rules contribute to a level playing field, fostering sportsmanship among peers. Encouraging their application during group activities has further strengthened their understanding of fair play.
I extend my appreciation to the Athletic coach his exceptional support in making these PE sessions truly memorable.
Year 4/5/6
Our students in Year 4, 5, and 6 have been engaged in mastering the proper techniques for shot put, discus, and long jump. Through a step-by-step approach, they have been learning the different phases of each skill and applying them with precision and determination.
To make the learning experience even more comprehensive, we integrated math into our lessons. Students have been using measuring tape and trundle wheels to measure their throwing and jumping distances accurately. This has allowed them to compare their marks and receive constructive feedback from their peers, fostering a supportive and collaborative environment.
Video recording in slow motion has been an great tool for self-assessment. Students have been encouraged to analyse their performances, identifying areas for improvement and celebrating their progress. Through these activities, they have also explored how modifying elements of effort and space can impact their overall performance.
As the Athletics Carnival approaches, our students are well-prepared and eager to show their skills!
