Book Week : August 19 to August 25
Book Week at Newlands will see another program of fun activities.
Every lunchtime in the library a teacher will read from their favourite childhood book.
On Wednesday, August 23, children's author Anna Battese, will visit. Anna is author of the popular PD McPem's Mystery series.
And if all goes to plan well-known Spanish children's author Margarita del Mazo, will pre-record a special message and reading just for Newlands.
On the Friday, August 25, there will be a Book Character Parade so start planning your outfits now! This will be followed by a presentation of certificates to all Read-a-thon participants plus prizes.
Read-a-thon (31/7-13/8)
A big thank you to Newlands PFA for organising the annual Read-a-thon. If this has passed you by it is not too late to jump on board and help raise money for the new library .
Try to read as many books as you can, or for as long as you can, and ask your family and friends to sponsor you. At the end of the Read-a-thon tally up your totals and enter them into the Google sheet - see below to download or scan the QR code on the poster.
Everyone will receive a certificate, and prizes will be awarded to top readers at our Book Week Parade on Friday 25th August!
Facts & Figures
The library is open to all grades at lunch time from Tuesday to Thursday.
In addition classes also have time tabled classes.
The library is also open after school until 4pm for all families on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Pictures & Pages Bookshop
The last time I mentioned Pictures & Pages they were for sale but had been unable to find a buyer and closure was imminent. The good news is that a new owner stepped in at the eleventh hour and the shop is set for a grand re-opening this month. So get down and show a local independent bookshop some love (Shop 5, Foley's Mall, 441 Sydney Road, Coburg).

The school has a subscription to Story Box Library https://storyboxlibrary.com.au/ that you can access from home or any where really.
