Museum of Photography Excursion

VCE Unit 4 - Art Making and Exhibiting students had the privilege of attending the Museum of Australian Photography, formally known as the Monash Gallery of Art. They were presented with an educational guide through the current exhibition of Anne Zahalka, one of Australia’s most highly regarded photo-media artist. Students were given valuable knowledge about the curatorial responsibilities, considerations and processes involved in the creation of the exhibition. They were informed of the gallery’s procedures regarding the preservation, conservation and care of artworks in both the transportation and storage, as well as the display of artworks.

It was a great experience, giving insight and preparation for the students' assessments and end of year exams.

SIS Team Chef Competition

On Thursday 3 August Nazareth College competed in the SIS Teen Chef Competition at John Paul College in Frankston. The theme was Australian with an Indigenous Accent.

Our team of five students produced a Macadamia Crusted Pork Fillet with Aussie Slaw and Bush Herbed Roasted Potatoes. The dessert was a Wattle seed Pavlova with Lemon Myrtle Syrup.

Our team consisted of Joshua Nedumthuruthil (Year 11), Jackson Dou (Year 11), Liani Mademlis (Year 9), Elisha Mac (Year 8) and Alice Cheng (Year 8). The team practised their dishes numerous times this term.

The competition was between 11 SIS schools. It was challenging, and all meals prepared were of a very high standard. Our students were challenged under pressure in 90 minutes with no teacher assistance. The dishes were judged by The Australian Culinary Federation.

Well done to our team. They showed commitment, skill, a calm demeanour and worked well in a team. Thanks to Ms Zoya Curcio and Ms Patsy Furlong (and Tom) for their talents and support of the team.

We are looking forward to Teen Chef 2024!

Congratulations

Year 10 Textiles- Fabric Printing

Last week the year 10 Textiles class were asked to bring in lemons, leaves, cut potatoes etc that could be used to print onto cotton Calico fabric.  Fabric paint, rollers, paint brushes were used and the students are currently in the process in making these into cushion covers or tote bags. The printing so far look amazing and creative.

I am looking forward to seeing the final outcome in the next week or so. You can also view these in the annual School Yearbook or at our Showcase exhibition that will be held Thursday 5 October.

Congratulations Chloe Boric! Our 2022 Nazareth College Alumnus scored a perfect 50 for VCE Units 3/4 Product Design & Technology (Textiles).

Last Thursday, at the Melbourne Convention Centre, she received her Premier's VCE Award for all of her hard work in this subject. Textiles teacher Ms Sue Fomanek was very proud to be there as her teacher and sat with Chloe's equally proud parents.

Indigenous Artwork installation at Nazareth

Over the past few weeks, Nazareth College was privileged to have Indigenous artist, Kellie Congues, create some beautiful artwork on the two main pillars as you enter the Resource Centre. Each pillar tells a story of the Nazareth community, our journey and link to our wider environment. Attached is an explanation for each pillar.

We invite everyone in the Nazareth Community to come into the Resource Centre to view this artwork. We would like to thank Kellie for her inspiration and creativity
