Career Expo
WOW! Well done to all the students and parents that embraced the Career Expo held in the Gymnasium on 27July. The stall holders all commented how great our Naz community was with remarks about how engaged students were and how great the questions were.
Year 10s were given a goody bag full of information to assist them with the process of subject selection. This was a wonderful opportunity for students of all ages to start (and develop) their thinking about options post Naz. It was a highly successful event.
Year 12s - The Time is Here to Make VTAC Applications for Tertiary Study Next Year
So what IS VTAC?
The Victorian Tertiary Admissions Centre (VTAC) is the organisation where all Year 12 students will be making their application for tertiary study through. It is the sorting house that connects what courses students want to do, and what each university or TAFE has to offer. it is like match making for careers and is a “one stop shop’ for all applications. Students will make just one application, however, they can apply for eight courses in order of preference.
We had a guest speaker come to talk to the cohort about the process and how the next two months will play out. Students are encouraged to now register and then make an appointment with me to go through the applications with them.
Parents are welcome to attend the appointments with their child and zoom appointments can be arranged.
Bookings can be made on the following link:
https://outlook.office365.com/owa/calendar/VTACinterviews@nazareth.vic.edu.au/bookings/
VTAC is open now and timely applications can be applied for until Thursday 28 September for a fee of $55. After this time, applications can still be made but at a significantly increased cost. I urge all students to complete their application during this timely period.
Subject Selection
Subject selection has been a busy time for Years 9, 10 and 11 students. The importance of selecting the right subjects to lead into further study at university or TAFE is very difficult when so many students are still too young to know what they want to do when they leave school. Students have, none the less, embraced this and done their best to make informed decisions. For any further questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me at elena.flodstrom@nazareth.vic.edu.au
Open Days
Another reminder that universities and TAFEs open their doors to the public on a day in August for students and parents to check out campuses, hear talks about courses and ask questions of lecturers, admission officers and uni students. This is possibly the best way to determine what you want to study and where you want to study it. Ideally, students should be attending a few places in Year 10, some in Year 11 and then narrowing down others in Year 12.
I have attached the list of Open Days here along with some questions to ask to assist with gleaning information.
