Around the College

 Building Bridges

Recently, Nazareth hosted the Building Bridges Interfaith program.  Around 70 Year 10 & 11 students from differing faith-based schools spent an evening enjoying games, sharing a pizza meal and engaging in small group sessions where skills in dialogue were learnt and tested.

Our Nazareth students presented a short PowerPoint about why we call ourselves Nazarenes. They also showcased our Chapel, highlighting the unique features that make us a Catholic institution. Many friendships are formed over the five sessions the students are involved in. Later in the year Nazareth will be hosting the Presentation Night for Building Bridges to which the students' parents will be invited. We look forward to this event.

God bless

Climate Changemakers Forum

On 8 June, Vishwanathan Sreekanth, Ruan Pasuleti, Kevin Ly and myself embarked on an excursion to a Climate Changemakers Forum held by the City of Greater Dandenong council, at Springvale Town Hall.

At the event we learnt important ideas about Climate Change and different action we can take as people and as a society to help stop climate change. We began the day with two elders from Bunurong Country performing a welcome to Country including a traditional smoking ceremony outside.

Inside we began to brainstorm different ways climate change affects us and how it will affect our future. We also explored different solutions, big and small. Next, we listened to a young climate activist who spoke about her journey with climate change how she has initiated change. Once we talked and thought about these ideas, we implemented some of them, we made a reusable beeswax wrap, and a native bee hotel, by doing these things we make an impact no matter how small it may have been. We also had a workshop about climate change identified certain things we do every day that influence the climate and how we as students can create a difference.

Through this experience and forum, we learnt about different ways we can help stop climate change we also learnt about different ways we can implement and affect change in ourselves and those around us. I am grateful for the experience and hope to attend future forums and experience new learning in the future.

E-Sports Club

Students have been escaping the winter blues this term and regularly attending E-Sports club at Lunch times on Fridays in H1-46. Playing on the Nintendo Switch, there have been many incredible battles in Super Smash Bros. and photos finishes in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe from students in Year 7 to 10 and the teachers!

Furthermore, some of our Year 7 and 8 students will be attending a Mario Kart E-Sports Tournament next month. Hopefully the practise at this club will drive home some success against the competition!

Good Luck to the students involved!
