Year 10 Work Experience Reports

"Having the opportunity to do my work experience placement with the PEARG Research Group under the University of Melbourne, allowed me to observe and take part in a real scientific workplace dynamic. I was able to shadow and assist in various experiments, analyse data, and maintain insect habitats which included creating artificial food, counting population numbers, collecting samples, and later extracting DNA. This allowed me to learn more about current scientific equipment and processes such as PCR and qPCR methods, which were used during the COVID-19 pandemic. I worked with many incredible people who generated an amazing experience for me and is one that I will definitely consider in the future." – Bella A

"My time completing my work experience program was an extremely positive one. I spent my week at a local advertising company, working on multiple jobs that they are currently overseeing, including a summer shoot for Adairs, Peter Alexander, and Just Jeans. I learnt many things, such as the process of organising and creating a campaign for a shoot, and how many people are involved behind the scenes of advertisements for companies I previously knew. It was an amazing experience, and I learnt a lot over the week. Thank you to everyone that made this possible and for the amount of effort and work was put into the week, especially Ms Freney." – Polly G

"Going to Telstra was an amazing experience, learning about how they cooperate in each team, how problems are overcome, and most importantly working with the amazing people at the company. Over the week I travelled to different places such as the Telstra head office, Vic Police, and a Telstra Exchange site where Telstra worked with different large customers. I experienced how Telstra supports various companies and businesses with their telecommunication solutions, such as Vic roads and 7Eleven. It was also insightful to also see the practical side of the Telstra environment." – Jennifer H

A very big thank you must go to Catherine Freney, Careers & Future Pathways Coordinator for all her hard work in preparing the students for this week.
