Teaching and Learning

Karen Whelan, Deputy Principal - Staff, Teaching and Learning

Welcome back to Term 3! We are greatly looking forward to embarking on another exciting and enriching phase of the academic year.

Semester 1 – Academic Excellence & Endeavour Awards

Last Thursday in assembly we had the pleasure of celebrating the Senior School students, who in Semester 1 had achieved academic excellence or endeavour awards. Respectively these awards acknowledge those students who have achieved outstanding academic subject results and those who have taken responsibility for their own learning journey and improvement in numerous subject areas.

We congratulate all our students for their efforts in Semester 1 and encourage them to continue to take on board the feedback they are given both daily in class and on their CATs, so that they continue to grow as independent learners.

Semester 1 Reports – Learner Attributes

Now that students and families have had the opportunity to reflect upon the Semester 1 reports, it is timely to talk about the importance of the learner attributes and how it is students may reflect upon the reporting of these. It is important that students remember that the learner attributes are not fixed characteristics, they can be developed over time and their achievement may fluctuate within a subject or between subjects. A growth mindset is vital when reflecting on these achievements, as all students can experience growth and development within these areas.

2024 Subject Selection

We have now finished the Year 10, 11 & 12 student assemblies and family webinars for the 2024 Subject Selection process. The Year 8 webinar will be made available this week (Wed 26 July) and the Year 9 student assembly will occur on Thurs 27 July.

Families are reminded that the online selection platform for 2024 Years 9-12 opens on Wednesday 2 August and closes on Thursday 10 August.

This week Year 10 families were involved in the 2024 Year 11 Transition Interviews. This is just one very important part in the counselling process as Year 10 students make the step into VCE. By the end of this week all current Year 10 students should have also completed their Year 10 careers interviews with our Careers and Future Pathways Coordinator Cath Freney.

Unit 3 & 4 Students

Term 3 promises to be a time of great learning, growth, and achievement for our senior students. As the term progresses more time will be spent on preparation for the upcoming final examinations, and our teachers are working tirelessly alongside our students to ensure they have all the resources and support they need to excel. We encourage our students to stay focused and persistent during this crucial phase of their educational journey.
