“We are informed by our heritage and tradition as we step confidently into the future.” – SGG Mission Statement
As I enter into a new era of Chaplaincy at Shelford, I have been reflecting on how chaplaincy plays a pivotal role in nurturing spiritual growth, cultivating a culture of grace and inclusivity, and empowering ethical leaders to shape a better world. Here are three areas I hope to focus on as I transition into the role of Chaplain at Shelford Girls Grammar.
At the heart of Shelford’s vision of Chaplaincy lies the deep-rooted commitment to nurturing the spiritual growth of its students. I hope to serve as a compassionate guide, providing a space for girls to explore faith and engage in conversations about the immaterial aspects of life. A part of this is to encourage an open dialogue and genuine exploration of beliefs, supporting students on their unique spiritual journeys, irrespective of their background or faith. Through introspective activities and service projects, students will be empowered to translate their faith into compassionate action, making a positive difference in the lives of others.
In my role of Chaplain at Shelford, I hope to epitomise the values of grace and inclusivity, fostering a culture where every student feels accepted, valued, and embraced. It is my aim to actively promote an environment free from judgement and discrimination, fostering unity amidst diversity. Furthermore, interfaith dialogues, cultural celebrations, and collaborative projects emphasise the beauty of different perspectives and backgrounds, strengthening the fabric of the school community. Embracing a culture of grace, students are encouraged to demonstrate kindness, empathy, and forgiveness, nurturing a spirit of understanding that extends beyond the school's gates.
Aligned with the teachings of the Anglican Church, I will endeavour to empower students to become ethical leaders, guided by integrity and compassion. Through leadership workshops, mentorship opportunities, and service-learning experiences, students will encounter experiences that will shape their character and be inspired to become proactive agents of positive change.
The vision of chaplaincy at Shelford encapsulates the essence of these three areas: a place where faith and grace intertwine to empower young women to become compassionate leaders, guided by spiritual growth and ethical principles. My dedication to nurturing hearts, fostering inclusivity, and inspiring minds will begin to lay a foundation for Shelford's students to shine as beacons of positive change in a world that eagerly awaits their leadership and impact.
