One Day Tour

At the conclusion of Term 2, our wonderful Orchestra, Chamber Strings and Stage Band musicians embarked on a one-day tour to Eugowra and Young.  Commencing with a performance for the community in Eugowra, our students presented an engaging concert which included introducing the instruments of the orchestra.  Students from Eugowra Public School, St Joseph’s Catholic School and Pre-school were amongst the audience, and each performed a song for us.  From Eugowra, we headed to Young Public School, giving an interactive concert for their primary school students.  The day ended with a concert for the community of Young at Young Town Hall.  Whilst the day was a very long one, it was a joy to see our students working so well together and giving the gift of music to others.  Thank you to Performing Arts staff Mrs Sinclair, Mrs Moxey, Mr Moxey, Mrs Martin and Miss Irik; thank you also to our wonderful gap students Rashmi and Finn and bus driver Sebastian Gaudiosi who helped with logistics throughout the day.

Music 2 Workshop Dr Craig Wattam

Senior Music 2 and Extension Music students were blessed to be able to attend a workshop with Dr Craig Wattam on the first day of the school holidays.  Dr Wattam is a past Chief Music Marker for the HSC and was involved with the development of the current syllabus.  Dr Wattam is an engaging presenter who worked with Year 10, 11 and 12 students on HSC Composition and Performance skills.

AMEB

Kinross Wolaroi School was recently acknowledged by the AMEB as one of the ten most outstanding accredited schools in NSW and was the only regional school to be awarded this honour.

Many Kinross Wolaroi students will again be sitting an AMEB Performance Exam over the next month.  Thank you to our wonderful visiting instrumental staff who have worked to prepare students for these exams.  Thank you also to Mrs Martin for the many hours of organisation that she has put into facilitating the smooth running of all our AMEB exams. Examination times have been sent to families – should you have any queries regarding your child’s exam please contact the Music Administrator, Mrs Sharon Martin, at performingarts@kws.nsw.edu.au

Wishing all of our students the very best for the upcoming exams!

Congratulations Zac!

Congratulations to Year 12 Music 2 and Music Extension student Zachary Annett, who recently performed a solo French Horn work with the Orange Youth Orchestra.  Earlier in the year, Zac won the Orange Conservatorium of Music Concerto Competition and this performance was the culmination of this award. Zac is taught French Horn by one of our wonderful brass teachers, Victoria Chatterley, who is also his mother.

Congratulations Zac, on this well-deserved award!

Congratulations Niamh!

On Wednesday 5 July Niamh Webster attended the Sydney Eisteddfod and competed against dancers from Sydney, Newcastle and surrounds. This was an extremely fierce competition, and Niamh was performing against dancers who train and perform in a full-time capacity.

Throughout the day, Niamh performed three dances (demi-character, lyrical and contemporary). Niamh was awarded a 94/100 and a third place in the section for her lyrical solo dance. The adjudicators commented on Niamh’s immense skill, style and the refreshing choreography.

This is a wonderful achievement for Niamh who has been dancing since she was 4 years old. She has trained incredibly hard and is deserving of her every success.

Well done Niamh!
