The Arts

Hello from the music room!

What a very productive and fun term we have already had!

As always, the students continue to be introduced to a variety of different music genres and music from different cultures. They use voice and instruments to sing, play and dance.

Over the past few week students have been introduced and learnt to bucket drum which is a continuation of our work with clave sticks (rhythm sticks).

Bucket drumming is where each student has a 20L bucket and drum sticks. Students learn hits and patterns on the bucket drums and work in a group to play multiple patterns/songs. It’s lots of fun!

Students have also learnt the songs and grade one students and above have learnt the hand clapping game to “Miss Mary Mack” and “A Sailor went to Sea.” It’s a fun way for students to practice different tempos. I’m sure it may be driving a few parents crazy hearing the songs on repeat!

In the next few weeks students will be introduced to Boomwhackers. Boomwhackers are brightly coloured tuned percussive instruments that are an excellent fun way to explore pitch and rhythm.
