Year 4/5 & 5/6
Welcome to our 4/5A & 5/6A newsletter page.
This term in Maths we have been looking at 2D shapes and 3D objects We have been looking at properties such faces, vertices and edges, units of measurement and calculating area, perimeter and volume. We created 3D shapes with spaghetti and named the shapes properties. From here we were able to establish the volume of objects prior to finishing off the unit next week with capacity and mass.
In Maths Investigations, we have been looking at 12 & 24 hr time. Students worked on a holiday project looking at timetables, created 24hr clocks and learnt strategies to use when working out elapsed time.
This term we have been studying some of Colonial Australia’s defining moments in history and analysing why they are such important turning points. To conclude this unit, students will be given one of these defining moments to further explore and create a presentation for the class.
We have been doing something a little different over the last few weeks called 'Popcorn Powerpoint'. This is a way we can learn a little more about each other and make connections with our classmates. Even the teachers shared a little more about themselves, which our students really enjoyed. This has been a huge hit amongst our classes and they cant wait to see each others presentations.
In English students have been analysing information texts, focusing on news reports. As well as identifying the features of a news report, students were given the opportunity to write their own news report. These were presented in a variety of ways including a class newspaper, TV style news program and radio news report read over the school PA system each day.
Students are now beginning a study of historical fiction 'Once' by Morris Gleitzman.
In our 4/5 and 5/6 communities, our students are regularly uploading classwork and activities onto their SEESAW accounts. If you have not yet set up your account and would like to view their work please contact their classroom teacher.
