Assistant Principal's report

Mrs Lauren Hopkins

Welcome Oban Rd Pre-School friends

Last week we were excited to welcome Red Group from Oban Rd Pre-School who walked in the lovely sunshine to visit us and have some fun. Children and staff had a story with Mr McClare, some dancing with Mrs Hopkins and Music with Mrs Butler. We were also very proud of Ludvik (Foundation G) and Fred (Foundation W) who were brave enough to talk to the group about what it is like starting school and what they love about Kalinda. Ludvik and Fred are ex-Oban students and the staff and children were very excited and impressed to hear from them! The Kindergarten children were also very excited to meet Roxie and Melon, learning about how to greet a dog safely. We can't wait to have our visitors back another time!

Dates to remember

Our Save the Date page is an important one to check regularly as we have many exciting opportunities and events coming up in the next 12 months. We update this page as soon as we know of any events, excursions or camps so it's a great page to check on. See down the page for Book Dress Up Day information, a popular part of the Kalinda Calendar!

Uniforms

We wanted to share a reminder that all students should be wearing full uniform to school, including a navy blue jumper. Whilst we are definitely not in the business of policing daily uniforms (we know what it's like to lose track of the washing!) we do encourage students to be in full uniform as much as possible. Wearing a uniform encourages a feeling of belonging and being a part of a team.

All uniform items are available from RHUniforms. We know that uniform items can become pricey and for non-logo items (jumpers, leggings, tights, rain jackets etc) we encourage families to feel comfortable seeking more affordable colour-matching items from retailers such as Big W, Best N Less, Target or Kmart.

If your family is finding it difficult to provide uniforms for your child, please reach out confidentially to me, Shaun McClare or your class teacher to discuss how we can support you.

We would like to encourage families to avoid their child wearing unnecessary non-uniform items such as novelty socks, branded jumpers and even make-up. Whilst these are fun for special days, they do not lend themselves to the feeling of community and belonging that we love to celebrate.

Our lost property is often overflowing with unnamed items, please help your child by ensuring their jumpers, beanies, hats and lunchboxes are clearly labelled.

Book Day

Book Week – Read, Grow, Inspire!

Dress Up Parade and Performance

When: Tuesday 29th August at 9:15am

Where: Stadium

We will be celebrating Book Week in style this year. On the day we will celebrate the theme ‘Read, Grow, Inspire’ and encourage students to share their favourite books.

We’d like to invite all of our students and staff to dress up as their favourite book character. Please feel free to join us for our Book Week Parade at 9:15 am. We look forward to seeing how creative the students can be and celebrating the importance that books play in our everyday lives.

This will be followed by viewing a Book week performance "Way too Cool'.

This performance is a highly interactive musical adventure that explores situations that every audience member, regardless of age or background, will be able to relate to. At its heart WAY TOO COOL! is a celebration of the way books and the 2023 CBCA Shortlist can inspire every individual on their journey of personal growth and development. It is also a journey that leads your students with the characters through the twists and turns of mapping out a way to solve their differences using empathy, kindness and a strong sense of humour.

Students will be able to see this wonderful play at no cost to families.   This is an opt-out event, please contact your child's teacher/s if you would like to opt-out. There will be a junior and senior school performance, catered to books at the students' age.
