Principal's report

Mr Shaun McClare

Acknowledgement of Country

We acknowledge the Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung People of the Kulin nation; past, present and those who will walk with us into the future.

We acknowledge the rich and unique cultural and spiritual relationships to the land, waters and seas, educational practices and the hopes of all First Nations Peoples. We do this in the spirit of reconciliation as we move to a place of justice and partnership - together we work, learn, play and care for one another and this land.

Student Wellbeing and the Resilience Survey

Supporting student wellbeing and providing them with the tools to support their mental health throughout their life is something we really pride ourselves on at Kalinda. We have invested a huge amount of time, resources, and strategic planning to ensure our staff have the skills and strategies to support the wellbeing of our diverse group of students.

In order to best cater for the wellbeing needs of our students it is important that we are able to collect data from them to identify areas of need. This is just as important for wellbeing as it is in teaching literacy and numeracy.

This year we have the opportunity for our Year 3 to Year 6 students to complete the Resilient Youth Australia Resilience Survey. This survey has a strong research backing and the findings will provide data that can help inform our wellbeing practices at the school.

The survey is completely de-identified and will provide us with valuable information about our group of students rather than individuals.

There is also a survey for staff and parents to complete that will provide valuable information.

Finally, we will be working with the Maroondah Network of schools to look at our network wide Resilience Survey data to find common connections that can allow us to collaboratively support our students and also support them as they transition from primary to secondary school.

Further information about the survey is available via this link  and if you would like to complete the parent survey it can be done using the link and code below.

Parking on Kalinda Road

Over the years we have had a number of parents enquiring about whether we can have 'kiss and drop' parking on Kalinda Road. This is a decision that is made by local councils and as we understand it, this is not feasible due to the amount of traffic along Kalinda Road as a key thoroughfare.

We certainly do recognise that parking along Kalinda Road gets very busy and believe that as a community we could work together to try to help each other with drop off and pickups. To do so, we ask that families parking on the school side of Kalinda Road between the stadium and the main driveway limit their parking to 5 minutes. If you plan on parking for longer, such as to walk your child into school, then we would ask that you park in another spot. This is not something that we are able to 'police', but with such a community-minded group of families we would love to see everyone making an effort to do this.

Enrolling for 2024
