Deputy Principal Teaching and Learning Report

We have now entered the Subject Selection season, and look forward to seeing all parents of current Year 9 to 11 students at the 27 July Subject Selection evening. Selections will be open on the Web Preferences portal from Monday 31 July and close on Tuesday 8 August. Importantly, the online selections are only confirmed once the student hands the printed form, signed by a parent/guardian, to the Pastoral Teacher by Thursday August 10.

The Careers Expo will again occur concurrently with Subject Selection evening on Thursday 27 July. Representatives from all the major Universities, TAFE providers, and other educational providers and many employers will all be at Nazareth College gym from 6.00 – 8.00 pm on Thursday 27 July, an opportunity that will be immensely valuable to all Years 9 – 12 students.  To prepare, we encourage parents to look through the Australian Jobs 2021 pamphlet (click to access on PAM), which highlights the growth industries of the past five years and projects the areas for growth for when our current students will be entering the workforce or undertaking the relevant study to prepare for this prospect.

For students entering senior pathways in Year 10 and Year 11 in 2024 we have additional guidance available. Current Year 9 students have the Taster Day – a chance to experience new subjects offered for Year 10 in 2024. This will occur on 2 August. Current Year 10 parents and students have appointments with a staff member for individual assistance on the Course Advice Day on 3 August to help shape their VCE or VCE VM program selections. This will occur on Zoom. Bookings are open on PAM.

All Course Guides and Subject Guides for 2024 are available to students and parents via the College website at https://www.nazareth.vic.edu.au/subject-selection/  Course Guides are available in the top section. Click on the relevant button and you will be able to view or download the Guide. In the Learning Area section, there is information about the pathways of each subject area when you click the button marked 'Flowchart'. You can also access information about Year 10 and VCE subjects in this area.
