Term 3 - Week 2

NAPLAN

Today the students in Years 3 and 5 will receive their NAPLAN results. We are incredibly proud of the level of learning that our students are engaged in whilst at school.

From 2023, proficiency standards replace the previous reporting of student NAPLAN results that used numerical bands and the national minimum standard.

Students’ results are measured against 4 levels of proficiency:

• Exceeding: The student’s result exceeded expectations at the time of testing.

• Strong: The student’s result met challenging but reasonable expectations at the time of testing.

• Developing: The student’s result indicated that they are working towards expectations at the time of testing.

• Needs additional support: The student’s result indicated that they did not achieve the learning outcomes expected at the time of testing. They are likely to need additional support to progress satisfactorily.

Our school’s results appear to be very pleasing, particularly in the area of Reading. We look forward to sharing more detailed analysis of our NAPLAN data in coming weeks. Whilst it is important to use the NAPLAN tests as a tool to plan for future learning, we also need to remember that it is one test and that we should always take a holistic approach when analysing individual results. If you have any questions about your child’s results, please do not hesitate to contact your child’s teacher and arrange a suitable time to meet.

The following video provides more information regarding a student's individual report using the new proficiency standards.

GRANDPARENT’S DAY

Tomorrow we look forward to warmly welcoming our grandparents and special visitors to help celebrate Grandparent’s Day. We will begin the day with a Liturgy commencing at 9:30am, followed by classroom visits and a picnic on the oval. We kindly ask all visitors to our school to please sign in at the ‘sign in stations’ located at the front of the school.

WORK EXPERIENCE STUDENTS

This term we have been fortunate enough to have some high school students completing work experience with us. Ella Scott and Cooper Holzigal were with us the first two weeks of term, whilst Mikeeli Tyrrell and Kaitlin Burgess will be with us next week. Thank you to these students for showing an interest in Primary Education. We trust that your time at St Nicholas has been a valuable learning experience for you and we have enjoyed having your assistance in our learning spaces.

SCHOOL FEES

There is only 20 weeks left of the 2023 school year, so we would like to remind those families who have outstanding school fees to budget accordingly so that school fee payments are met by 1st December 2023. If you have any questions regarding school fees, please do not hesitate to contact Jennine Grady in the front office.
