From the Chaplain

On Monday we had a chapel service for the students about doing your best and not giving up.  We had reflections from all the captains of the Country Week teams which showed us how they never gave up and did their best to the end.  Not all the teams won, but that did not matter as the teams gave it their best effort and had a great time, coming away feeling proud of their achievements.

We spoke about the parable of the talents and using the gifts that God has given us.  God has given us all a different measure of talents.  Some may be very gifted in music and others not, but it is important to do our best with the talent and opportunities we do get.

We also looked at the bible verse:

We can rejoice when we run into problems and trials, for we know that they are good for us—they help us learn to be patient. And patience develops strength of character in us and helps us trust God more each time we use it, until finally our hope and faith are strong and steady. We are able to hold our heads high no matter what happens and know that all is well, for we know how dearly God loves us.  Romans 5:3-5

We are all going to have trials in life and this bible verse is telling us we can rejoice in these.  This is obviously something that sounds very hard to do, but we need to remember that everything happens for a reason and God is always in control.  When we are having difficulties, we tend to draw closer to God and ask for His help, which makes our faith and patience in Him stronger.  We need to trust in God and know that He always loves us and has great plans for us.  We can do all things in Christ who strengthens us.
