Student Wellbeing

As we enter the middle of Term 3 with the days getting a little longer and the sun having a little more intensity, it is appropriate to identify some of the key activities that have been happening or are coming up over the next couple of weeks.

Friday 18th August – National Bullying and Harassment Day – NO WAY

Friday of this week is the National Day against Bullying and Harassment. This is an appropriate day for all students at Years 7 to 12 to complete a survey that has been created by our Student Representative Council on the issue of Bullying.

The purpose of the survey is to identify:

  • The number of students who may have been bullied
  • Where within the school has the bullying occurred e.g. lockers, toilets, canteen line etc
  • The number of students that may have experienced cyberbullying
  • Whether students have witnessed the bullying of others

We look forward to sharing the data and the information that we collect with both the student body and our parent community in future editions of the Marian News

Student Representative Council – AUDIT of School buildings

As part of the work of the Student Representative Council the Child Safety Sub-Committee have completed an AUDIT of all school buildings and facilities from both a safety and child safety perspective. The Committee will present their findings to both the larger Student Representative Council and Mr Pisani with recommendations on what needs to be addressed to ensure that we have best practice in regard to safety.

Child Protection Week

Monday 4 September to Friday 9 September is highlighted on our School calendar as National Child Protection Week. During this week information will be shared with our student so that will they continue to develop an understanding of what it means to be SAFE both when at school or when they are not at school. Activities will also be organised for the students during lunchtimes

Father’s Day Breakfast – Friday 1 September

An invitation was sent to all students and families late last week inviting our fathers and significant male figures to celebrate Father’s Day on Friday 1 September from 7.30 am.  Please complete the Trybooking process if you would like to join us at this celebration. You are most welcome.

Brigidine Celebration Day is coming

Our annual Brigidine Celebration Day will be held on Tuesday 5 September. The day will begin with our celebration of Mass and we formally invite any Parent/Guardian who would like to share this liturgy with us.

Students will also have the opportunity to listen to Guest Speakers that will address us on our theme for the year - COURAGE.

Later on in the day we will have carnival activities and then we will end the day with our version of MARIAN HAS TALENT.

This is always a great day and we are looking forward to celebrating who we are as a community.

Finally, a few reminders about Uniform…

At this point in the school year, we are following up those students who still seem to struggle with College expectations in the wearing of the uniform.

We remind you of the following:

  • The College tie is to be worn with the winter uniform
  • Tracksuit pants are not to be as a substitute for the College uniform pants
  • Visible items of non-uniform clothing underneath the polo shirt when wearing PE uniform
  • Facial piercings (including plugs) are not acceptable. Students will be removed from classes and asked to remove the item and if that is not possible then they will be sent home

We are in the process of discussing with our uniform supplier some changes to elements of our uniform. We look forward to sharing these changes once they have been confirmed with the School Leadership Team and Mr Pisani.

A reminder to all of our families that our uniform shop is open on Wednesday and Friday of each week from 10.05 to 1.30pm.

We also have second hand uniform pieces available Please contact Lisa Carnovale on 9363 1711 if you are interested.

We look forward to keeping you informed of the work of our student leaders over the next part of Term 3.

In the meantime, stay warm and stay safe….
