Multicultural Dinner

Multicultural Dinner - 5th August

The Multicultural Dinner began to the distinctive humming of the bagpipes, as we welcomed guests to Kennedy Hall last Saturday.

Two hundred and thirty members of our community gathered together for Grace Inglis' Acknowledgement of Country and Murrundindi's didgeridoo playing Welcome To Country, for Nepali, Vietnamese, Samoan, Indian and Indonesian dancing, and for songs from Iran, Indonesia, Vietnam, Cambodia and Spain.

We listened with great interest to Lily Gallo, of Italian descent, our guest speaker, who is both an alumni member and long-term teacher at Killester.

Of course, there was the dinner also. A wonderful mix of foods from around the world for entrees, mains and desserts. People were delighted to see the array of choices and to be on sensory overload as the trays of food entered the Hall.

The raffle for this event was a fundraiser for our EB team, raising over $1000. People also were offered the ability to donate to the Brigidine Asylum Seeker Project, raising just over $800, via the trybooking tickets for the event.

Sincere thanks to Mark Pudney, Lucy Collins, Bill and Daisy Tucker, Penny Curtis and Michelle Xuereb - as well as the Hospitality students - who prepared food on Friday and Saturday for 230 people.

Thanks to Leo Ly for the IT support and to Sallie Tran, Raechel O'Shea, Kylie Taberner, Stacey McNamara, Faye Jamieson, Amy Tran, Ralph Wellington, Scott Evans, Graham Cowan, Jac Jarvis, Samantha Campion and Trish Pham for assistance with the setup and raffle ticket sales...and to Neil, who drove from Geelong to welcome everyone with the stirring tunes of the bagpipes.

Our MCs were Killester students; Eliza E and Vivien O and they did a brilliant job.

The performers were so very good. We also had parents and grand-parents introducing performers in their cultural language. Thanks again to Lily Gallo and to everyone who attended.
