Book Recommendation
Tom F enthusiastically recommended the book, Twenty Thousand Fleas Under the Sea. Tom said it is a graphic novel, with adventure, comedy and romance. The settings vary from the Shark Shack to a Flying Submarine and Beach Piggy. The main characters are Dog Man, Bark Night, Petey, Lil and many more. Chief and Nurse Lady go on a date, the gang gets shrunk and attacked by a microscopic mite. Tom recommends the book for students in years 4 to 6 and above and rates it 5 stars.
Foundation Celebrate 100 Days of School
On Monday, our 2023 Foundation students celebrated 100 days of school! This year’s group chose to dress in “party clothes” to celebrate the occasion. Parents and Grandparents joined them to undertake a myriad of activities based on 100! Much fun was had by all. A big thankyou to all the parents and grandparents who took the time out to help them celebrate and make it a wonderful occasion. Below is a taste of some of the activities.
Ryan and his mum planting sunflower seeds.
Renee and Charlie and their mum’s making glasses.
Oli being carefully watched by Mum and Dad while he draws a picture of himself on his 100th day at school!
Ashton with his parents building with 100 tubes
Audrey and Nan with the 100 puzzle
Calder Athletic Sports
Tomorrow we will make our way down to Charlton Park to participate in the Calder Athletics. A reminder for students to wear the blue school shirt (under your Charlton College jumper to keep warm), shorts, and runners. Also bring along a drink bottle, lunch and snacks to eat throughout the day. Parents are most welcome to come along, help, support and cheer the students on.
Kinder Transition Meeting
We will be holding a “Get to Know Charlton College” session on Monday the 21st August, beginning at 3.30pm. This will be an opportunity for parents of 2024 Foundation students to learn about the College and ask questions. Importantly, it is a chance for the children to familiarise themselves with the school and their classroom teacher, Lizzie Judd in readiness for the transition day.
Victorian High Abilities Program
Last term, we had Anna undertake the Maths component and Jacinta the English component. This term, Sam is undertaking the English component of the Victorian High Achiever’s Program. Students are selected to this program through strong performance in their Numeracy and Literacy work and NAPLAN. Sam logs on each Friday to undertake a session with other students in the program under the guidance of a tutor. He partakes in instruction and discussions online and undertakes activities whilst in the class. The program also has a homework component which Sam completes in his own time.
Around the classrooms:
Foundation leant that the Wright brothers were the first to fly an aeroplane. As part of their studies, they made their own planes.
