Resilience, Rights and Respectful Relationships

Mim Papinniemi

RRRR has been an exploration of Emotional Literacy, Seeking Help and Relationships and Sexuality Education in Terms 2 & 3. Students have enjoyed learning about their bodies, body boundaries and body safety with activities focusing on consent and respect for ourselves and others.

In learning about body safety, students have explored what it means to ask for help, how can we ask for help and from whom. We have learned the Auslan Sign for "Help Please" as well as how to use AAC devices to communicate our needs. The words "STOP" and "NO" are an important part of understanding body boundaries.

If you would like to source some age appropriate books about consent, body boundaries and body safety for home, please have a look at some of Jayneen Sanders' work. She is an experienced early years educator, author and publisher living locally in Melbourne. The posters below are a part of Sanders' work and have been an important learning tool with our students. You can see some of her books in the bottom right corner of the posters for reference.  If you would like any further book recommendations, please don't hesitate to get in touch with me.
