Foundation/Early Primary

Beginning of Term 3.

The Early Primary students have had a great start to Term 3. So far this term we have celebrated 101 days of prep for our Foundation students and Pyjama day to celebrate plastic free July.  On Friday the 4th of August we celebrated Principals day. Students made their own craft flowers in pots to show their appreciation of our principal team, Sue, Ash and Tania.

Our curriculum focus this term for numeracy has been on Money, where students have explored using play money in a ‘play shop’ scenario which has also broadened their play based skills and sharing. We have continued to work on place value where students have engaged in a number of sensory tasks that explore numbers and using their one to one correspondence. Towards the end of the term, students will move to working on days of the week and sequencing them in order.

In Literacy this term we have been continuing our fortnightly phonics program where students have explored letters with our ‘Jolly Phonics’ program. Students have enjoyed using their sensory handwriting tools to explore letter formation and spelling, whilst given the independence to explore writing in their own way. For Reading this term, we have begun to look at books such as The Very Cranky Bear, Pig the Pug and Pete the Cat. During Book Week we enjoyed reading The Very Hungry Caterpillar and having our incursion called The Paper Planet.

Every Friday, Foundation and Early Primary students have been having a joint outdoor sensory/play to learn session where we work on socialisation in a structured way, incorporating play and sensory engagement. This has had positive impacts on student relationships and play skills.

In Week 6 we celebrated Science Week with the theme of ‘Innovation, powering future industries'. Early Primary students explored the use of whisks in various stages of their design innovation. It was great to see students exploring this with hands on manipulatives.

We look forward to having a great, learning-filled Term 3 and a reminder that the last day of school this term will be Friday the 15th of September. Thank you!
