Music and Performing Arts

Music News

Welcome to all the year sevens who have recently joined our program. For any students who missed attending Recruitment Night and who wish to join the program, we still have places available on Flute, Clarinet and Violin.  If you are interested in any of these instruments or would like to join our Junior Choir, please contact our Performing Arts Secretary, Mrs Sedergreen, via email on rsedergreen@ringwoodsc.vic.edu.au , or come and see us in the Performing Arts Centre.

Rehearsals commenced last week for our year seven ensembles. Training Band rehearses each Tuesday at 7.30am in Room 700. Training Strings rehearses each Thursday lunch in Room 700. Junior Choir commenced this week on Monday lunch in room 700. Bring your lunch!  Everyone must attend even if you still do not have an instrument. Those who wish to hire and have not done so already, please get in your paperwork and payment in as soon as possible. Instruments need to come from interstate, so they will take at least a week to arrive. Please note lessons cannot commence until Music Levy has been paid.

All orders for music jackets was due at the beginning of this week. If you have not ordered yet and need to, please contact Mrs Sedergreen as soon as possible.

Also please pay for music ties at the General Office and bring receipt to the PAC Office to collect your tie.

Music Photos will be Thursday 28 March in the College Hall. Just a reminder that all ensembles will be in Performance Uniform EXCEPT Training Strings, Training Band and Junior Choir. These three ensembles will be in College Uniform. If you wish to order photos, please bring the photo envelope with payment on the day of the photos. If you still haven’t picked up the photo letter and envelope, please collect from outside the PAC office.

The Music Association is currently running a raffle in the lead up to Easter and all music students were given raffle tickets to sell this week. Prizes are lots of delicious chocolates, just in time for Easter, and tickets cost  1 for $2.00 or 3 for $5.00. Fundraising goes towards purchasing of much needed instruments and equipment for the program. Please return tickets by Monday 1 April. Raffle will be drawn at Parent/ Teachers Interviews on Thursday 4 April at 8.00pm.

Storage and labelling of instruments.

We are now approaching full capacity in our storage rooms for instruments, which means all students need to ensure that their instrument is clearly labelled with their name and it is stored appropriately. Those who own instruments need to insure them. Please note instruments insured on household contents policies are not covered outside the home. They are not covered whilst in transit to and from school, whilst on school premises, or on any excursions. The College cannot take responsibility for any damage, loss or theft of instruments. Please note that hired instruments are also the sole responsibility of the person hiring the instrument.

Our Music Association needs your help!

The Music Association is looking for new members in 2019.  It really is a great way to become part of your child’s journey through the music program, to meet other parents and to find out a little more about what happens behind the scenes at the college.

The Music Association is a parent group, which actively supports the Music Program by assisting front of house at concerts; serving suppers, and fundraising to purchase much needed instruments (the ones that are too expensive for families to buy) and equipment.  They have a longstanding place in the history of the college and want to ensure that they remain viable long into the future. The committee meets approximately twice per term on a Monday evening. Their final “meeting” for the year is a social dinner in late November or early December.

The next meeting is on Monday, 1 April at 7.00pm and you are cordially invited to come along, meet all involved and find out a bit more about what they do and how they do it.

If you cannot attend on the 1 April, please feel free to call the Music Association’s President Trudy Brewster on 0425806460 or send an email to trudy.brewster@noeljones.com.au if you would like to find out more about the RSC Music Association and how you could assist even if you are unable to attend meetings. The RSC Music Association would love to hear from you.
