Principal's Post

From the Acting Principal

Progress reports, which provide a snapshot about how students are learning, are available  through Compass. The Parent Teacher Interview portal is also open to provide parents the opportunity to book teacher conferences for the 4th of April. We encourage parents and students to capitalise on this offer and discuss student progress with teachers.

‘I wish we could have another Ball,’ was the cry of one student who rated the Debutante Ball as one of the best times in her life. Borne out of tradition, but operating with a modern twist, the Debutante Ball provides an opportunity for dressing up and dancing, family gatherings and community partnerships. There is no doubt that students enjoyed the pageantry and families enjoyed the night but as a school we will be making further changes to some of the traditional aspects of the Ball to reflect modern sensibilities. Hence, what we will offer as an event at Year 11 will be different next year and discussions are being had about the changes. Meanwhile, an occasion such as this cannot be undertaken without the involvement of the experts who made the evening wonderful. The PCTA warmly thanks the following people: Kathy Donovan, Vicki Pleydell, Caitlin and Tim Doyle, Larissa Hill and to the Year 12 Prefects Alice D’Arcy and Mitch Hart who were magnificent Masters of Ceremonies, our office staff, Michael Phillips, Karen Phillips, Sharon and David Rogers, James Barut, staff who attended on the night and of course, our Year 11 Debutante couples and their families.

I have had the pleasure this week of attending the Heritage and Alumni committee meeting whose focus is organising the Work Futures Expo dedicated to exploring the New Work Mindset to benefit students. The committee has lined up engaging and motivating keynote speakers who will talk about the changing world of work and has organised presenters from a range of local businesses and major government organisations to speak about their experiences and what skills they look for in potential employees. More information will be provided about this important expo in the next few weeks.

The Work Futures Expo will take place on June 19 in the Junior school.

On a further note, the Heritage and Alumni Committee wish to promote their next project: Job interview experience for VCE and VCAL students.

For 10 years now the RSC Heritage and Alumni Group has been offering students in their last year at school the opportunity to experience a ‘real’ interview and get positive feedback which will help them at future career  interviews. To get an interview at the time that suits you, talk to your careers teacher or contact Barry Ring at barry.ring@bigpond.com for more information.  An opportunity not to be missed.

After a trying start to their travels due to flight delays, staff and students on the World Tour are in Canada wowing the audiences as they have done since leaving the United States. It is a hectic pace they have set for themselves and all reports suggest that they are enjoying the performances and experiences of their host countries immensely. We wish students and staff continued success.

I have had the opportunity of handing out ribbons to the winners of the Maroondah Division swimming at Aquanation. Students from Ringwood Secondary College represented our school magnificently and a number of students will represent the college at the Eastern Metropolitan Region event this coming Tuesday. We wish students the best of luck in their races. Thank you to Ringwood Secondary College staff who are taking a leading organisational role in this event.

Students on incursions and excursions have had such fortunate weather with bursts of sunshine in the first few weeks of autumn. The Geography field trips, the Science biosphere examinations, the Year 9 Camp to Phillip Island, Year 7 Bike education, just to name a few, provide educational pursuits in an inspiring environment so that students develop collaborative skills and leadership and build resilience outside the four walls of the classroom.
