Film Festival Roll-Call

It's time to share yet another of the creative films that has been crafted by students. This next one is called "Pink Bike".

This film by Joshua Wittwer and starring Blake Madden and Jayden Jackson-Alexander won the award for best film in the Open category.

Well done gentlemen!

NB - These three young men were also finalists in the Cinefest Snaps Awards as part of the Cinefest Film Festival. A powerhouse team!

.....and another National Finalist gong for the boys!

In case you have missed it - and if any doubt remains about the College's capacity to perform well in the film making arena, then this surely puts it to rest. Josh Wittwer, Jayden Jackson-Alexander, and Blake Madden have also been named as finalists in a National competition, this time the 2019 MyState Student Film Festival.   https://mystatefilmfestival.com.au/

Take a moment to see what they have created.

Free Dress Day Fun

Free Dress day at the College last week was more than just about looking out for others - there were also some fantastic activities for our students too!

This report in from Miss Anderson:

‘Today Year 3 had a great experience as Bunnings came in to run a Christmas Workshop! They painted and constructed Christmas Tree center pieces. Check out their amazing trees! Thank you Bunnings for coming and doing this workshop with us. ‘

Fantastic!

Service Camp

Service Camp is an annual event for our Year 10 students - providing an opportunity for them to step aside from the campus and make a difference to a charity or not for profit group within the city. Mrs Langenhoven was one of the teachers responsible for overseeing the camp this year, and she became a very impressive roving reporter.  We'd love to share her commentary with you.

Day 1

‘We are off to a successful start of our year 10 service camp! Plenty of work accomplished today and lots of relaxation and swimming time this afternoon.’

Day 2

'We are on a roll. This morning our devotion came from Ephesians 6:7 and I challenged the students to serve wholeheartedly, with a focus on serving the Lord, not men. With that in mind we high pressure cleaned, raked, washed, painted and sanded. Not to mention the willingness of so many students happy to lend a hand in cooking, food preparation and cleaning up. Mr Van der Tang and I are so proud of what the year 10s have accomplished in two days!’So, how do you reward 32 Year Ten students? Dominos Pizza for dinner!

A very special evening on the shores of Geographe Bay watching dolphins.'

What a beautiful place we have to call home!

Day 3

‘Some of our year 10's have been patiently fishing and crabbing each night of camp. Tonight they had success! Cameron and Elijah caught four correct sized crabs and Mrs Langenhoven cooked them up. Many students had not caught and eaten crabs before so needed a crash course on dissecting them. Donald gave an informative lesson on how to get the meat out and then those that were keen to had a taste. They were delicious!’

Day 4

‘We made it! Today we finished our jobs, tidied up and had Simmos Ice Cream for morning tea. We are very thankful to the managers of Camp Grace for making us feel so welcome. What a wonderful camp.’

Thanks Mrs Langenhoven and Mr van der Tang on making this possible. We are grateful for you both!  If you want to see the full range of photos from the event, visit out Facebook page to see more.

Film Festival Winners Continued

The recent film festival showcased a number of budding directors, and we would love to share another with you. This is Nathan Abbott's film on the Locke Nature Reserve. It won best documentary category.

Well done, Nathan!

Poole's Potato Patch

We are pleased to announce that Mr Poole's Potato Patch has been harvested. Whilst the crop might have been a little less productive than hoped for, the students in Year 9 had a whole heap of fun in discovering the rewards of their labour.

The aim of the exercise was to provide a real-life opportunity to understand the concepts of yield - a mathematical means of calculating the success of the planting. There have been a few lessons learnt, and hopefully next year we can see a bounty of spuds.

Well done everyone!

Pre-Primary Excursion

The Pre-Primary Class from Busselton recently left the campus, and had the chance to get up close and personal to some pretty amazing Australian animals.  They spent the day at the Bunbury Wildlife Park.

It was a fantastic day, with amazing weather - and we are so grateful for the team of teachers and EAs that made it happen.

Adopt an Ironman

There's been a few very athletic guests on campus over the past few days, with the Adopt an Ironman program providing a fantastic engagement opportunity to students.

Year 3s had Nina.

This is what Miss Anderson had to say:

'Nina, our Ironman from the Philippians can to visit us today as part of the Adopt an Iron Man project. It was wonderful to have her share and answer the Year 3’s questions. Four of our Year 3’s will be competing in the Ironkids tomorrow. We wish them and Nina good luck.'

Market Day 2019

Market Day 2019 has finished, and we want to celebrate the amazing students, staff and parents who were a huge part of the success of the day. The enterprising opportunities taken up by students was diverse - from jelly-cups and lemonade, to clothing stalls and games.

Whilst the success of the stalls was something to celebrate, the biggest winner on the day will be the Compassion Charity, who will have the proceeds heading to support some of the most impoverished children on earth. At this early stage, we can advise that over $2500 was raised.

Well done everyone!

NB - Thanks Mrs Meyer for being our photographer!
