Welcome to the new members of our Box Hill team!

We asked some of our new staff members to introduce themselves. They're an active and interesting bunch who are well-travelled, some coming from other careers and a couple of them have strong opinions on tomato sauce and pineapple!

Ms Arabella Thompson

I am so excited to join the Box Hill High School community as a Science and VCE Biology Teacher. I completed a Masters of Teaching degree at Monash University. Outside of school, my students know that I love to travel (those pesky Luxury Escape emails are too tempting!) and going to the footy in winter!

Mr Shane Hart

I am a teacher of English and Humanities and enter my 29th year of teaching. I’ve taught in Queensland, ACT and now for seven years in Victoria. I’ve also taught in the US, England, Scotland and Ireland. My last role was Head of Junior School at Yarra Hills Secondary College. When I’m not working hard, I’m gardening, reading, writing (finishing my second novel), cooking, swimming, playing tennis or spending quality time with my family. I’m loving my role as Learning Leader Literacy at Box Hill High School.

Ms Amy Longden

I am delighted to be returning to Box Hill High School once again to teach English. Having taught here for three years previously, I spent the last five years teaching in London and exploring the world. I love travel, trivia and trying out new recipes. I also teach Drama and look forward to helping with the productions.

Mr Robert Sayer

I am a 'fresh out of the box' graduate teacher who is very pleased to find myself teaching Maths and Science at Box Hill High School for 2020. My background is in pure mathematics (the prettier and more useless the better!), and before deciding to become a teacher I was pursuing PhD studies in Number Theory at Boston University. During those rare moments when I'm not talking somebody's ears off about mathematics I like to cook, read, and play guitar (indeed, once upon a time I even did the latter for a living).

Ms Theresa Jarvis

I am excited to join the team at Box Hill High School as Business Manager, having worked in a number of schools including primary and high schools.

I hold a Graduate Certificate in Education Business Leadership and look forward to assisting you with the many facets of finance.

I have three children and two beautiful grandsons who keep me very busy over the weekends.

Mr Peter Harvey

I’m originally from Western Australia, and spent last year overseas completing my Masters of Teaching. I previously worked at Balwyn High School, teaching Commerce across Years 9-12 and Junior School Humanities. I’m really looking forward to getting involved in the BHHS community, and back into the classroom. I think that tomato sauce should be kept in the pantry, and that pineapple belongs on pizza!

Ms Rebecca Kertes

I am very excited to be joining the Box Hill community as a Maths and Science teacher, and I am looking forward to what the year ahead has in store! I graduated from the Australian Catholic University where I obtained my Master of Teaching, before which I completed a Bachelor of Science majoring in Psychology at the University of Melbourne. I love to travel and have worked overseas in a school in London as well as at a summer camp in the US over the past few years. Outside of school you will likely find me playing football (for Old Camberwell) or watching football – go Dons!

I also believe that tomato sauce should be kept in the fridge, and pineapple does not belong on pizza!

Ms Deanna Chesterton

I am originally from Queensland and grew up with a love for animals and the outdoors. My teaching areas include HPE and English, and after two years teaching abroad, I spent 2019 as a sub for the BHHS English Department, working part-time. I have a love for all things sport, especially Volleyball and Football, and feel excited to take the field as a full-time member of Box Hill High School’s teaching team. Pun intended.

Ms Sharyn Leahy Hatton

I am a Humanities teacher who has being welcomed into this wonderful community at Box Hill High School with the opportunity to teach Geography. Outside teaching, my time has been spent in Psychological Research, Herbal Medicine, and Circus. What I love about Geography is it offers an integrated way of viewing the world and I look forward to inspiring students in conceiving themselves as custodians who care and believe they have agency over a sustainable future.

Ms Marquita Corr

I am excited to be teaching Maths and Science at Box Hill High. I previously taught at Heathmont College for over ten years. I am looking forward to a new challenge in my teaching career and getting to know the Box Hill High community. I enjoy walking in the great outdoors, baking and camping. I look forward to getting to know you this year.

Mr Tim Dobson

I’m excited to be starting here at Box Hill in 2020. I completed my undergraduate studies in the USA earning a Bachelor of Science with a major in Biology and minor in Chemistry. I’ve made my way to Box Hill following my Masters of Teaching at ACU and am teaching Maths and Science. When I’m not teaching I play and coach Lacrosse, write, bake and enjoy playing music.

Mr Tim Darby

I lived in NSW and QLD during my time at school. I moved to Melbourne to go to University and have been here ever since! To cut my life story short, I was always keen on Maths and Science and went to uni to become an engineer. After working as an engineer for a few years I decided I needed a change. I have always enjoyed teaching and tutoring because I like helping people and seeing them succeed so I decided to become a teacher!

I am looking forward to getting to know some great students and helping them enjoy their time in Maths class and hopefully learn something while there! I really think Maths can be fun and interesting and that everyone can do it with practice and hard work.

I compete in a sport called Dragon Boat Racing and have been to China three times to compete. PS. If you want to talk about becoming an engineer, feel free to ask me anything.

Ms Lynette Ng

Hey everyone! I am Lynette and I’m really excited to be back at Box Hill High School! I taught at BHHS in 2017 as a graduate teacher and am currently in my fourth year of Mathematics teaching. I grew up in Singapore and have been in Melbourne for six years now. Outside of work, I love to play badminton, binge watch TV series and read. I look forward to getting involved in this community and getting to know all of you! :)
