Digital Technology News

Hello there,
Technology is a powerful tool for communication.
This week the preps have started using their microphones to record their thinking when they’ve been doing their literacy activities. They look just like an old telephone. It allows them to say what they’re thinking and then play it back to see if it makes sense. The real benefit is it cuts out a lot of background noise so that when they add their voice recording to their piece of writing on the iPad, it’s nice and clear!
Last night during our staff meeting we also heard from Aoife and Seamus about the ILP (iPad Learning Program) they took part in which was facilitated by Apple. We watched a video about how the kids are using PicCollage to sequence stories, and both teachers reflected on the way that the iPads were a powerful tool for children to explain their thinking, even for those students who weren’t at the stage of writing. It was really fascinating to see what our preps are producing and it has inspired many of the teachers to have a go at using iPads in different ways during our lessons. And just to finish off, Phillip from Apple gave both Seamus and Aoife very high praise for the way they were incorporating the iPads in the classroom. Phillip told them that they were doing innovative things with the iPads that weren’t even thought of in the Apple Distinguished Schools he works with. Very high praise indeed. Well done you two!
Thanks,
