1-3 Learning Community News

Welcome back to Term 3, 1-3 Learning Community families! The 1-3 Learning Community is incredibly excited for all the learning opportunities that will be available to all students this semester.

Firstly, we would like to make a warm welcome to two new staff members we have joining us this semester, Eliza and Malinda. Please feel welcome to introduce yourself as we welcome both these highly skilled and amazing educators into the 1-3 Learning Community family.

We have also welcomed a number of new students and their families into our learning community.  These students are Layla, Marcus, Bracken, Jasmine, Eva, Connor, Zaki, Toby, Sonny, Hahana, Natalee, Iris and Mia.  We hope you are enjoying being a part of the 1-3 community and are getting to know your new friends.

STEM focus - This term our STEM focus is upon Physical Sciences. Students will be learning about motion, force, energy, heat and temperature. We are also excited to have our first excursion to be held on Thursday 9th of August to Scienceworks to further student understandings in these topics.

English and Mathematics - Over the next 6 weeks within our English workshops students are focusing upon non-fiction texts. They will be building their knowledge of parts of speech to enhance their writing and using a range of comprehension strategies to begin thinking ‘within’ and ‘beyond’ the text when reading. In Mathematics, we will be focusing upon Multiplication, Division, time and reinforcing number facts and place value.

Timetable: Please find the learning community timetable below (please be aware that art, PE, Values, STEM and Tech sessions are based on 3 Learning Groups - not home groups – ask your child or teacher if you are unsure which specialist learning group they are in).

*some minor changes will be made when Eliza joins the team in week 3.

We hope you all have a Collaborative, Caring and Committed Term!
