Our Community

Meet our Head Girl, Head Boy and the Clemes Council for 2020

Charlotte joined The Friends' School in Year 6 and has been extensively involved in music and drama both inside and outside of school. Charlotte believes that it is important for young people to maintain a balanced, varied lifestyle and to stay connected with those around them.

Tasman joined The Friends' School in Year 7 and has embraced being part of the School community, including being involved in a number of sporting and service activities. As Head Boy, Tasman aims to be a part of all areas of the School and forge many positive relationships over the coming year.

Grandparents & Older Friends Day

Grandparents and Older Friends' Day was held in Morris in October.

Grandparents and Older Friends Day is a very special day in Morris that our students look forward to every year. It is a chance for our students to show off what they have been doing in class and for them to learn about their older friends lives and what school was like for them. This is also a fantastic opportunity for grandparents and older friends to see what our students are getting up to at school.

Thank you to all the staff and students who put in a lot of hard work to make sure our grandparents and older friends felt welcome.

A Winning Impact at the 2019 Design Tasmania Awards

Congratulations to our very own Jane Bamford (Art & Ceramics Aide) for winning the Design for Impact award at the Design Tasmania Awards 2019.

Jane has been working on these ceramic spawning habitats with the CSIRO for the endangered Spotted Handfish for some time now and it is great to see this vital work being recognised. Prior to Jane's ceramic spawning habitats, CSIRO were trailing plastic habitats, that were sturdy but did contribute to plastics in the ocean. With ceramic habitats, there is less plastic being put in the ocean, they are less likely to float away and they are more sturdy.

Old Scholar Tim Haley (2012) also won an Object Design Award for his "subliminal planter". Amazing work, Tim.

Nicola Hughes' Family Adventure Around Australia

Outdoor Education teacher, Nicola Hughes, set off almost a year ago, riding tandem bikes around Australia with her husband and her two children, Hope and Wilfred (Wilfy).

The family has faced many challenges, met many amazing people and learnt a lot over the past year, with the trip doubling as a "mobile classroom", with several schools taking part in projects by sharing the family's experiences on the road via Skype.

The family is due to to ride back into Hobart on 18 December.
