Career Development Program

Warrnambool College has partnered with Westvic Staffing Solutions in an exciting new pilot partnership – Career Development Program. This week students in Phoenix presented their final presentations to the businesses, teachers and family.

Phoenix students from two classes this week presented their Career Development Showcase – which was the culmination of work for the students after eight weeks of research, industry visits and classroom activities.

Students were given a problem of practice by each of the businesses and presented their ideas back to businesses, teaching staff and family.

This inaugural and innovative program has been designed to foster greater links between our school and local industry.  Students researched, toured and worked with staff from Ace Radio, Lyndoch Living, Wannon Water, Midfield Group and Warrnambool City Council.

As part of this program Students had the opportunity to hear from and discuss career pathways with Westvic staff, former students at the College (including Matthew Monk from Coast FM and the Flying Horse) and students currently engaged in VCAL and school based traineeships.

The program has helped students to identify and develop their soft and hard skills and identify areas they need to work on to succeed in the workplace.

Well done to the students involved and thank you to the staff and businesses who helped to make this innovative and engaging program such a success in its first year.
