Assistant Principal's Report
Transition and Headstart
It’s hard to believe we have already reached October!! Less than 10 weeks until Christmas and only 8 weeks left of the school year. Term 4 can slip away quickly but for our students it is action packed with opportunities and experiences. Classes and gaining momentum in the lead up to exams, 2020 subject selections and class choices are being finalised, VET enrolments for 2020 are happening, Orientation Days, Head start, Final Assemblies, House Assemblies, Information Nights…….The list goes on. Make sure you have had a good look at the calendar but in this report I will go into some more depth on a couple of these items.
Headstart
The 9-13 of December we will be running our 2020 timetable. This week will be aimed at setting academic expectations and unpacking the curriculum and focus for 2020. A lot of the subjects will be introducing importing reading and work that can be completed prior to the start of next year, enabling students to get a head start on their learning and start the school year with rigour. During this week we also have the Orientation Days, both country (Monday the 9th) and state-wide (Tuesday the 10th). We encourage our students to support any of our starting year 7’s who might look lost or in need of support. It is a daunting time, and one that we can all work together to make a little bit easier as welcome a new bunch of students to our school.
Transition
Each year is a new and exciting learning opportunity for students, from Grade 6 to Year 7 it is all about a new environment and transitioning into adolescents. From 9-10 it is about starting in the senior school and choosing your pathways to future employment and success. As we reach the end of the year we encourage you to start the conversation on what has been achieved, and what goals can be set for the following year. Every day is a fresh opportunity to start the path to where you want to be, don’t look back in three years and think “If only”.
For our Year 12 cohort, about to start exams and transition into the big wide world. Take the time to reflect on how far you have come and what you have achieved. Take the time to reflect and show some gratitude to the people who have supported you through your education. Your family, your friends, teachers, support staff. Say thank you, for without their support it would not have been possible. But also take the time to reflect on your own achievements and be proud. We wish you every success in your exams and your futures. Never forget where you came from, you will always be a Warrnambool College person. Onward and upwards!
