Assisstant Principal's Report
Winter has certainly arrived! Our House Leadership are opening up spaces during recess and lunch to provide warm places for students to sit during the wintry days. If this pattern of weather continues (which is highly likely) then we will be opening up other areas such as the Hall. Obviously we require students to treat these indoor spaces with respect so all students can benefit from this shelter from the cold. We also realise that it can be a time where students will prefer to wear an item of clothing that doesn’t fit within our school uniform policy. We believe that there are enough options included in our school uniform policy that keep students warm. If students can use the layering principle where numerous layers of clothing actually provide more warmth than one thick layer such as a Kathmandu jacket. There are plenty of clothing layers available as a part of our school uniform.
Attendance
We are currently working with Beyond the Bell and Warrnambool City Council to highlight the importance of the ‘EVERYDAY COUNTS CAMPAIGN’. Schools have been asked to share an important message each week about the advantages of attending school. This week the message is;
‘CONNECTION IS KEY’ – being away from school means a student may miss out on important social connections with friends. School is so much more than learning in class.
Due to the change in our attendance process, we are finding more students are attending tutorial and participating in the vast range of tutorial activities. During the past fortnight we have been observing our tutorials and have witnessed our students participating in such activities as hula-hoop competitions, dance competitions, table tennis challenges, birthday celebrations and many other exciting things to be involved in. Tutorial is a wonderful opportunity for our staff to development strong connections to our students in a different format than a normal classroom.
This week we celebrated 87 students in Logans attending school at 95% or above; we also celebrated Childers with the highest overall attendance for Weeks 4 and 5. Keep on turning up and supporting your tutorial and House with their attendance outcomes.
REMINDER
Pupil Free Day next Friday 7th June – our staff will be revisiting our Positive Psychology program at Warrnambool College and also continuing their work on a consistent method of delivery of our Instructional Model – ENGAGE EXPLORE EVALUATE.
