Principal's Report

“Village is a place where you can find peace, unity, strength, inspiration and most importantly a natural and beautiful life.” Minahil Urfan

Our college is part of the very special Beaumaris community village. It is from this view of village that we find strength in our unity. Our students are learning their role as part of this village. They must be given the opportunity to learn from mistakes in a safe environment without being shunned. It is our capacity to forgive and learn that allows us to grow and contribute more positively in the world we are a part of. Our hope is that every young person is permitted to grow and develop into a resilient, compassionate and confident member of the village.

Open Night

Our Open Night last Thursday was again a huge success. Thank you to the 60 students and 20 parent volunteers that helped support the evening. It was well received and our student ambassadors showcased the school with pride. Our parent volunteers explained the strong school links and positive learning experiences of their children. Our teachers and education support staff highlighted what teaching and learning looks like across all learning areas.

Curriculum Innovation

Our optional contribution of curriculum innovation is allowing our teachers to provide creative curriculum opportunities to our students. We are finalising the fish tanks that will be part of the BEST Labs. We are setting up a Media studio and equipment to support this. We will be implementing virtual/augmented reality learning experiences across learning areas. We also have robotics equipment purchased with students keen to join in the Lego Mindstorms FFL Competition. These contributions go straight to student learning experiences. Thank you to those who have contributed and we hope for ongoing contributions to this.

Bike Shed Update

School Council will be approving this in the coming week with works to commence this term. We will provide updates when a timeline is provided.

This has been shared by one of our parents. “How the Iphone rewrote the teenage brain” . It is worth listening to given the experience that many families are having related to dealing with the challenges of technology in adolescents.

Helping Victorian Parents Find Their Local School

The Andrews Labor Government is making it easier for parents to find out what school zone they live in with the launch today of a new interactive website.

The Labor Government has created a simple and clear website so, for the first time, Victorian parents will be able to enter their home address online and see their local school zone.

A number of anomalies in school zoning have also been addressed. Previously, some homes were excluded from a school zone, and in some cases, school boundaries overlapped.

The Find My School website also includes zones for the new schools opening in 2020.

The website allows parents to search for their closest school as well as find other nearby government schools.

Schools can be found by typing in a residential address or suburb or searching by school name or categories such as primary, secondary, or specialist school.

The new website will provide parents with clarity and consistency on what their government school options are.

Every child has the right to enrol at their closest government school. School choice is also very important. Schools have a
