A Little Change to Student Dismissal

Thank you so much to our parents and carers for your cooperation at dismissal time. The staff is very appreciative of your assistance in keeping students safe and getting to where they need to go. On Monday we are going to change our routine a little to overcome a few difficulties.

Dismissal

At 2:50 pm students who catch a bus, walk or ride a bicycle home will be called to go to the usual designated areas.  (Either outside the canteen or on the concrete depending on which direction they travel home)

Most school gates will continue to open at 2:50 pm except for the hall gate which will be opened a few minutes later to ease congestion and provide students with clearer access to the school hall for bus lines.

Once the hall gate walkway is clear of parents, walkers and riders will be dismissed at 2:50 pm, followed immediately by the dismissal of students on pick-up lines.

A gentle reminder to parents picking up children that they should remain with parents/caregivers once collected and no ball games or use of play equipment is permitted.

Brave Parenting in a Culture Riddled with Worry

Parents are invited to a free webinar designed to help parents understand where their anxiety about their kids comes from, and why they don’t let their kids do half the stuff they did growing up.

Hear from Lenore Skenazy, President of Let Grow, a non-profit promoting childhood independence and resilience, and founder of the Free-Range Kids movement. Lenore will talk about ways to make it easy and normal to start loosening the reins so both generations get more freedom. Key learning outcomes include:

  • Why treating our kids as physically and emotionally fragile is bad for their future
  • That your kids are not in constant danger
  • How independence impacts children
  • How to raise nimble problem solvers
  • Ideas to know how safe, smart and capable your kids can be

Formation of Classes for 2020

The process for forming classes for 2020 will soon begin. Teachers have a very good understanding of how the students in their class work in the class environment and of their social and academic needs and strengths. They spend a great deal of time considering the placement of each student with grade partners.

Included with this newsletter is the St Joseph’s formation of classes policy. Please take time to read the policy as it will provide you with an understanding of the process.

All requests regarding a child’s placement should be in writing and addressed to the Principal. Whilst parental requests are considered, there is never a guarantee that they will be granted. If you plan to make a request, particularly about your child being placed within a friendship group, please be aware that there may be circumstances surrounding such requests that prevent it from being granted.
