Year 2

In the Library last week, Year 2 researched why some people make pancakes on Shrove Tuesday. Finding specific information in our non-fiction section of the library was a challenge as there were no books specifically about Shrove Tuesday but they did manage to find some information in general books about Easter or Christian celebrations. Using our online Britannica encyclopedias also gave us the answers to many of our questions.

Year 2 discovered that Shrove Tuesday is the day before Lent/Ash Wednesday. In the past, many Christians celebrated Pancake Tuesday as a day of using up foods that could not be eaten during Lent. Year 2 had fun in making and eating pancakes!

Pre-Kinder picking apples

Our apple tree was bursting with fruit. The children were helping Miss Ferguson pick the apples and sort them into apples for cooking and apples for Laura’s horses. The following week we made an apple crumble. We talked about all the ingredients and where in nature we get them from then at lunch had apple crumble and custard for dessert.
