Weymouth House

Vice-Captains Report by James Glasson

Walking through the doors of my home away from home, seeing all the new and returning boys with their smart or much needed haircuts made me realise how much I missed this place over the Christmas holidays. We had our first house meeting for 2022 introducing the new boys and hearing some outrageous stories from the holidays, after that it was game on and time for school. The start of the year in Weymouth has gone smoothly with some great weekend activities such as touch footy, ultimate Frisbee, swimming, having dinner at PLC and making balloon animals just to name a few. Now into the sixth week, the new boys have found their feet and there is a lot of action and a good vibe within the house making it a great place for everyone.

International Women’s Day at PLC

House Captain James Ferguson

On Sunday, Kinross Wolaroi Boarding held a celebration for International Women’s Day. The evening was held at the PLC site for Trathen, Stuart Douglas, Miller, and Weymouth houses and was highlighted by guest speakers consisting of Mr Callaghan, Ms Kite and Mrs Proudfoot-Nalder who were kind enough to share their stories of empowering women in their lives as well as giving us an insight into their journeys of navigating through the workforce while conquering gender bias. Following that, the boarders participated in a round of trivia focusing on the achievements of women as well as historical female figures. To conclude the evening there was a barbeque dinner arranged for everyone consisting of burgers and sausage sandwiches. A massive thanks to Audrey Gill, Ms Whittemore and all the boarding staff for making this possible and ensuring the event went smoothly.

Golden Boot Winner

Each month in Weymouth House we recognise the effort and achievements of one of the boys. Our February Man of the Month was Jack Pursell. Jack has done a fantastic job looking out for new students and helping them settle into School and Weymouth House. He always looks out for his mates and has assisted them when they need a hand. Jack has a cheerful demeanour and thoroughly enjoys every opportunity that comes his way at Kinross Wolaroi.

Loader House

from Ms Sophie Fardell, Head of Loader House

It has been a delightfully positive start to 2022 and as a house we are excited by the opportunities and challenges it has to offer. On Monday  31 January we welcomed

17 new members to our Loader Family to embark on their new journey at Kinross Wolaroi, with now a total of 51 individuals in the house. We have also welcomed a new staff member, Ms Emily Collett, who has adjusted well to the boarding lifestyle. Our other residential assistants are Natasha Terry-Armstrong and Tiffany Holland, and Loader’s housemother is Marina Prodreka. As a community we are excited to work together to create a positive and engaging environment where all can contribute.

As a house, this year we look forward to the completion of upgrades and renovations around the PLC site, including the newly furnished Dorothy Knox Hall, incorporating a common kitchen and lounge area, as well as new carpet and paint in all the boarding houses.

This year, we aim to partake in numerous activities with not only the other houses on the PLC site but also boys' boarding. Already this year we have enjoyed activities including trivia, a trip to the Huntley Berry Farm, and walks to Spilt Milk, as well as having hot chips in the park with Weymouth House. Just this weekend, we had the opportunity as an entire boarding community to come together and celebrate International Women’s Day. The girl and boy boarders had the opportunity to hear from a variety of guest speakers who shared their personal stories of growth and independence and what it is like to challenge the stereotype of a female. It was a fantastic way to spend a Sunday evening. As the term progresses the students continue to look forward to the activities that will be made available to them.

As Term 1 continues, it is nice to reflect on what has been an extremely busy and  productive six weeks. The introduction of a new Prep program has seen the girls capitalise on having a variety of staff in differing subject areas available each evening to support them in completing their homework and assessment tasks. As Loader's Head of House, this term continues to afford me the opportunity to get to know the new students better and to continue to develop positive relationships with the girls. Boarding is ever evolving and it has been lovely to gain feedback from the girls and continue to build on the positive culture. I look forward to what the rest of the term brings and also what the rest of the year holds for the 51 members of Loader House.
