VCAL Camp

On March 21st and 22nd, 30 of our Year 11 VCAL students made the trip down to Phillip Island for camp to show how much they’ve learned in Personal Development throughout Term 1.

Day 1 started with a visit to the Phillip Island Nature Park Penguin Parade. Students had to get up close and personal with the native flora, collecting seeds for propagation to use for penguin population conservation.  Students then headed down to the beautiful Smiths Beach to try their skills at surfing.  They did a wonderful job, some out catching waves for almost 2 hours.  We made our way back to our accommodation at A Maze’N Things, where students had to ‘fend for themselves’ for dinner; some cooking up steak and burgers, others 2-minute noodles.

Day 2 started bright and early and we all enjoyed a communal breakfast of bacon and egg sandwiches (courtesy of Mr Butler & Greg’s excellent cooking skills), followed by a morning session at Clip N Climb.  This was a challenge for those of us who had fears of heights, but the students all overcame them to reach the summits of some of the walls. We headed back down to Smiths Beach for the final activity of camp which was a beach conservation session.  Students did a guided beach walk, collecting rubbish from the sand to highlight the impact we have on the environment.

Overall, the VCAL camp went excellently and we are so proud of the conduct of our students.
