From the Classroom

Grade 3

We have had another busy week in the classroom. On Tuesday the children had fun doing our Chemical Science experiment. The children had to investigate why custard is hard to classify as a solid or liquid.  For our procedure, children had to mix custard powder and water together in a bowl and make a prediction.  They had to use their hands to explore the custard by poking it, punching it, squeezing it and holding it. All children were fascinated by how the custard behaved through various movements with their hand, which made it hard to classify. On the surface the custard looked like a liquid, yet by touch it felt like a solid.

For the first time this year, the grade 3 children have been given homework. Their books went home Tuesday and this includes a reading log each week to complete. Homework is due this coming Monday.

Grade 4

It was great to see everyone dress up for our Twos Day celebration! Some of the costumes were very creative.

On Tuesday 22/02/2022 or 22/2/22 we studied palindromic dates. Students were introduced to words that are spelt the same forwards and backwards. We used this knowledge to find other dates this year and in the future that are palindromic. Students were also challenged to see if their birthdate was palindromic.

For writing, this week students are creating a persuasive text on the topic ‘Summer is Better Than Winter.” They have planned out their writing sequentially and begun to put it into paragraphs. Students are also being challenged to find synonyms for words they may use multiple times in their piece such as better.

Homework Books were sent home on Tuesday this week. Students need to record their reading each night, complete the small handwriting task and the investigation on palindromes. It is due on Monday 28th Feb.
