Update

Year 7

Year 7s have started the year off beautifully in PE participating in a range of minor games that assist in developing their communication skills and getting to know each other. The focus of the minor games has included Target Games, Striking and Fielding Games, Net and Wall Games and Invasion/Territory Games.

In health the year 7’s have been working hard to develop their understanding of Sun Safety and the importance of being SunSmart.

Year 8

In Health, the Year 8s have been learning about the seven components of nutrition with a focus on their function and the role they play in maintaining a healthy diet. During practical PE sessions, Year 8 students have developed their teamwork and communication skills through participation in minor games. The students have enjoyed attending the Visy Centre, at the previous Wanganui Campus, where they have begun their inclusion games unit, enabling students of differing abilities to engage in sports and games together. This week students had the opportunity to participate in goalball which is designed for athletes with a visual impairment. It was wonderful to see the students encouraging and supporting each other.

Year 9 PE

The year 9s have been refining their cricket skills this term. They have been working with their team mates to develop their personal skills and come up with strategies to improve their fielding.

The Girls Recreation and Healthy Lifestyle classes have been visiting different recreational facilities in Shepparton. They have been able to reflect on their experiences and review and critique the different activities available to the youth of Shepparton.

Year 10

'Active for Life' have been looking at healthy people and healthy communities and how these components are linked together. The classes have just started going out into the community to participate in two golf sessions at Mooroopna Golf Course and two lessons on how to play croquet! It’s going to be a busy four weeks of lifestyle games.

Human movement and sport science are close to finishing the cardiovascular system. They have learnt how to manually take their individual heart rates during sporting performances. They then have been using this data, along with their theory notes, to describe the impact exercise intensity has on heart rate. It’s great to see them starting to learn some good habits and routines for senior physical education studies.

Year 11 Unit 2

Year 11 PE students have been learning about the health benefits of physical activity and investigating the impact that physical activity has on social, emotional, physical and mental health. The next steps are to review the Australian physical activity and sedentary behaviour guidelines and evaluate their own activity levels to determine whether they are meeting these.

Year 12 Unit 3

The Year12s are close to completing their first SAC which focussed on how movement skills are improved. Students have been busy learning new concepts and terminology which they then apply in short practical reflections.

As demonstrated in the photos they have enjoyed the challenge of learning how to juggle!
