GSSC Career News

There have been lots of fabulous things happening in the Careers Department these last two weeks with many career conversations occurring. All Year 12 students are encouraged to make contact with the Careers Practitioner in their Neighbourhood to make a time to discuss career pathways at the end of year 12.

We have also been busy helping students to source Structured Work Placements for the new VCAL experiences of work days which many are starting to commence.  If you have any questions about Careers and pathways please send a message or make a call to the team.

If you haven’t caught up with her yet she will be at GSSC on Wednesdays in the Enterprise Building at lunchtime. Elisha is a wealth of knowledge about all courses at La Trobe and is able to also advise you about pathway courses, accommodation, scholarships and more. Please take the time to drop in and see her next week.

Year 9 - My Career Insights (Morrisby Profiling)

This week the Year 9 – My Career Insights program started.  So far students from Biyala and Dharnya have completed their profiling with Bayuna to come next week.  My Career Insights is a program for all Year 9 students in government secondary schools. The program is aimed at using results from questions and quizzes about their skills, interests, personality and abilities to match them with potential jobs that they may suit them in the future.

Students need permission to do the profiling and are required to bring a fully charged laptop computer with them. There will be a catchup day organised for those students who were absent on the day, or forgot to bring their computer. If you missed the information sessions for this and would like to participate see your careers practitioner for forms.

Careers in Maths

The following information has been taken from My Career Match www.mycareermatch.com.au

Studies consistently show Australian participation in secondary school advanced Maths continues to decline, in spite of the demand in the growing tech, engineering and science industries which require employees to have high-level maths qualifications.

So what are the career opportunities for students who take mathematics?

A degree in mathematics can provide you with many job options. Almost every field and industry relies on mathematical theory and data, and the likes of insurance companies, financial institutions, technology and engineering firms require employees with extensive knowledge of mathematics.

Most science and business professions prioritise candidates with degrees in maths or strong math skills. The following are fantastic maths career websites:
