PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

The college has truly excelled in the first term of the school year. I am so proud of our community. Everyone has adapted admirably to the new ‘covid normal’ policies for schools and made the most of all opportunities to learn and participate in both on- and off-campus events.

Here’s a quick snapshot:

  • The students dove into fun and built camaraderie on Seminar Days and at the Swimming Carnival.
  • Since 2022 is the ‘Year of Spirituality’, we all felt grateful that we could resume our Lenten traditions with a Shrove Tuesday pancake buffet before honouring the season by attending a beautiful Ash Wednesday Liturgy.
  • Our student leaders have worked diligently and set a great example for their classmates.
  • All staff have put exemplary effort towards events outside of normal school hours, including the Year 11 Information Session, the Year 12 Meet the Teacher Evening, and our Open Evening just this past Tuesday.
  • The college officially welcomed all new students, staff, and the families of both at last week’s Opening Mass.
  • Finally, we paid homage to our Mercy history with the blessings of the Mercy Heritage Centre and the Sisters of Mercy Memorial Cross at Nichols Point Cemetery this past weekend.

I think you’ll agree that the outlook for Term 2 is very bright, indeed.

God has truly blessed us with so much, yet we don’t have to look far to find others in very different circumstances. The pandemic continues to claim lives and livelihoods. Many have lost everything to the floods in New South Wales and Queensland. Dominating headlines, the war in Ukraine stretches towards its fifth week. All over the world, armed conflict and instability threatens the lives of millions of people just like you and me in countries as far-flung as Ukraine, Yemen, Mali, and Afghanistan.

Here in our beautiful corner of the world, we have the luxury of being able to safely enjoy our everyday lives with the people we love. I think we all realise that this is the truest blessing we could ever hope to receive.

God Bless

Mrs Marg Blythman
