Year 3

Welcome back to school! The grade 3 students are settling into their new classes and building relationships with their peers and teachers.

Reading:

In Reading, students and teachers have worked together to unpack and establish reading routines such as Independent Reading, Guided Reading and how to choose a ‘Just Right’ book, that will be practiced throughout the year. Our Reading unit this term is understanding Persuasive texts. We will do this by looking closely at their features, various persuasive techniques and their effectiveness in helping the author persuade the reader of their opinion! You can support your child at home by asking them to identify the author’s point of view and what persuasive techniques they noticed in their home reading and in conversation.

Writing:

It has been amazing to have our new Grade 3 students fill our classrooms up with laughter and curiosity. We are excited to be delving into our first writing unit, Persuasive Writing. During this unit students will explore the difference between facts and opinions, investigate various forms or persuasion and formulate a range of persuasive texts that we are sure will convince us to agree with them!

Maths:

Students have started Maths this year with a bang! Students have been working in small groups to share ideas and strategies they used to solve a problem. Students were able to lead the charge on organising their classrooms Maths resources, sorting them into appropriate categories. Our first few weeks of Maths are around Place Value and Time. Students will look at the difference between Place Value and Value and will practice telling the time to the nearest minute.

A wonderful poem written by Peyton in 4E J

Roses are red, violets are blue, with classmates like you our friendships are true.

I started the year anxious and in fear but as the days went by everybody said hi.

When I found out I had classmates like you, I didn’t think it was true to have people in my life as amazing as all of you.

4E works together so we respect each other from the minute we walk into the room.

Our friendships will never break no matter what we go through. We’ll always say sorry for our mistakes/ misunderstandings.

We’ll listen to each other no matter what we say.
