Flora & Fauna

We welcome all Level 3 students and families to our wonderful Flora and Fauna program at Rangeview! Flora and Fauna will run every Tuesday between 11:30am and 1:00pm and all Level 3 students will be involved. Rotations will occur every four weeks and students will be engaged in cooking, gardening, Science and Sustainability.

COOKING: In the first Cooking rotation students learned about knife safety and general safety rules when working in our beautiful kitchen gallery space with Mrs O’Keefe. Students made their own tomato bruschetta and thoroughly enjoyed eating their creations as the photos show below. Students will be uploading recipes to their Flora and Fauna folder on Seesaw by the end of the four week rotations (or saving a photo of the recipe card to their iPads), so that they can make the recipes at home with their families.

GARDENING: With the support of Patty (Mr O’Neil) students donned gloves and worked hard to maintain our beautiful grounds and garden beds. Students will be involved in raking, digging, planting and harvesting throughout the year.

SUSTAINABILIY: Students investigated the question ‘What is Flora and Fauna?’ and learned the difference between ‘flora’ and ‘fauna’. They explored different flora and fauna around the school, taking photos and placing them on colour wheels to show their learning. See photos below of some of the colourful results.

SCIENCE: ‘Paddock to Plate’ is the first rotation topic in Science and students learned about what happens to fresh food from when it is grown and harvested, to the processes involved by the time it lands on our Supermarket shelves and in homes. In addition to this, students also investigated raw versus manufactured products. A real eye opener for many of our students!
