Principal's Report
Flexible. Resilient. Positive. 2022
It has been a positive and calm start to our term with students settling into their new grades, making new friends and starting to engage with their learning. We have had a number of wonderful activities take place across the school, including Level 5 Water Safety, Level 6 Open Water Safety, Run Club, Martial Arts Therapy, Parent / Teacher Get to Know You Interviews, School Council meeting and our first Rights, Resilience and Respectful Relationships Partner School meeting.
School Council
Our 2021-2022 School Council met on Wednesday night last week and amongst other things, had a report prepared for them by our two new School Captains - Remi Peters and Samuel Brown.
Going Back To School - A Students Perspective
Going back to school has been good, especially with seeing my friends. I know a lot of people have the same opinion but one thing I want to touch on is the workload. The teachers are quite supportive and I know this is a school, but coming back from holidays, its been a bit sudden with the work that we are given.
Coming into school this semester has been very hectic. There has been a lot of work and a massive jump in the level of difficulty. I have loved seeing my friends and participating in new activities such as MAT, swimming and Run Club. The teachers have been very nice and supportive making it very fun.
Remi and I went around to different grades to get feedback from the students. We asked grade 1s, 2s, 4s and 5s about what they liked or disliked about going into their new grade.
That is our students perspective on the first few weeks.
Junior School Council
Our Junior School Council have been elected in grades from Level 3 – 6 and the first meeting was last Wednesday. These members are partnered with a Junior School grade F – 2. Our Junior School Council ensures strong student voice and agency is supported in an authentic way. The JSC will be putting forward ideas and suggestions to School Council across the course of the year. They will be represented at School Council by the School Captains and the Student Voice Leaders.
Term 1 Working Bee
Our first Working Bee for the year was last Saturday 19th February from 9am – 12pm. Our fabulous families spread soft fall under all of our four playgrounds, were weeding and pruning, and general grounds clean up and repair. Thank you to our families for your outstanding efforts - it is so lovely to have parents back onsite again.
Whole School Cross Country
Our cross country day is set for Friday 18th March and this year the whole school will participate. Mr Clark has arranged for our Junior School to run a short course on the oval – in a ‘fun run’ style event. The Running Club began in week 3 of this term and is occurring from 830am on Tuesday and Thursday mornings. We were thrilled to have over 150 students participate from the first Tuesday morning.
Harmony Day 25th March
Once each term we have a whole school celebration day. This term we will be celebrating Harmony Day on 25th March. There will be a focus on cultural diversity and students will be working in buddy grades on activities and lessons that educate and celebrate our community’s cultural diversity. We will encourage our students to come to school in a costume that represents their cultural heritage and we will have a whole school assembly to begin the day. We hope to be able to invite parents to this assembly.
Facilities Update
Rangeview received three grants in 2021 for the purpose of Grounds and Facilities upgrades.
Grant 1
Rangeview received a $400 000 grant from the Department of Education for the purpose of an amenities upgrade – senior block. Initial meetings began in Term 4 of 2021 and plumbing teams have begun visits this term. We expect works to begin this term with initial estimates of the completion time frame being 3 months.
During construction of the new amenities block, students will have access to the gymnasium toilets. There will be some level of upgrade to the junior amenities block however we anticipate minimal disruption to the use of these facilities.
Grant 2
Rangeview received a $200 000 grant from the Department of Education for the construction of an Inclusive Playground constructed on the banks of the oval. This will incorporate an open air classroom – amphitheatre style, a Snakes and Ladders play space – with ground level curved slides, and a maze and sensory garden. Initial designs are being finalised currently and we expect initial works to also commence this term. We have yet to receive a time frame for completion.
Grant 3
Rangeview received a $25 000 grant from the Department of Education to construct a new shade sail over the Library deck. The plan for this space is the creation of an outdoor classroom which can be used across the school in varied weather. Quotes have been submitted for this project and we expect works to commence in Term 2.
New Signage
We have received our new Kiss & Go signs for the drop off zones at the main gates. We hope these assist with some of the traffic issues we can experience at busy times.
Thank you to all of our families for supporting the school to make this such a happy and successful start to the year.
